How do analog sampling oscilloscopes achieve [their] accuracy... The trigger event occurs several dozen nanoseconds ahead of the sample point and initiates a variable monostable that causes successive sample points to occur at an increasing distance from the trigger event. Thus the analog sampling oscilloscope can build up a stable display of a waveform, which is many times faster than the sample rate. 3, record 1, English, - analog%20sampling%20oscilloscope

The total mortality rate estimated from the lengths in the scientific surveys, the number of fishing days of a fleet per season, the percentage of immature individuals as well as the amount of gear per fishing area are indicators of fishing pressure on a population. For example, a mean total mortality rate estimated during a period when fishing would not have had an impact on the health of the population can serve as a target reference point. Recommendations aimed at reducing the level of withdrawal can then be issued when this target reference is exceeded. 2, record 2, English, - fishing%20pressure

The economy exists entirely within society, because all parts of the human economy require interaction among people. However, society is much more than just the economy. Friends and families, music and art, religion and ethics are important elements of society, but are not primarily based on exchanging goods and services. Society, in turn, exists entirely within the environment. Our basic requirements--air, food and water--come from the environment, as do the energy and raw materials for housing, transportation and the products we depend on. Finally, the environment surrounds society. At an earlier point in human history, the environment largely determined the shape of society. Today the opposite is true : human activity is reshaping the environment at an ever-increasing rate. The parts of the environment unaffected by human activity are getting smaller all the time. 2, record 9, English, - human%20economy

Angular rate gyro accuracy is characterized by two parameters : scale factor and drift. In actual measurement, the viscosity coefficient of a material is obtained from the ratio of shearing stress to shearing rate. This assumes the ratio to be constant and independent of the shearing stress, a condition which is satisfied only by Newtonian fluids. Consequently, in all other cases, values obtained are apparent and represent one point of the flow curve. The Doppler effect on sound waves is experienced in everyday life. When an ambulance passes us, the siren appears to change its note. As it approaches, the pitch is high. As it passes us, the pitch falls. The effect occurs with any type of waves, including light. In the case of sound the effect was described by Christian Andreas Doppler (1803-1853), while for the light it was observed by Armand Fizeau (1819-1896). That’s why sometimes the effect is called the Doppler-Fizeau effect. 5, record 25, English, - Doppler%20effect

Effet Doppler.

The Keetch Byram Drought Index(KBDI) provides a daily measure of soil dryness, which, in turn, gives an indication of water stress in plants. The KBDI represents the net effect of precipitation and evapotranspiration in producing cumulative moisture deficiency in deep duff or upper soil layers. The KBDI has a range from 0(no drought or soil moisture deficiency, i. e. soil at field capacity) to 2000(extreme drought, maximum soil moisture deficiency possible). The index can be viewed as the amount of rain needed to bring the soil back to saturation, with one mm of rain reducing the index by 10 points. The 0-2000 point scale is divided into three drought classes : 0-999=Low; 1000-1499=Moderate; 1500-2000=High. The KBDI is simple to calculate as it uses only two, daily weather observations-maximum temperature and 24-hour rainfall. The system functions in a book-keeping fashion where estimates of daily evapo-transpiration and measurements of precipitation increase or decrease the value of yesterdays index. The KBDI by itself is not a Fire Danger Rating System as it gives no indicate of the ease of ignition of the vegetation, or of the rate of fire spread, fire intensity and difficulty of control. It does however serve as a useful measure of drought occurrence. 7, record 27, English, - Keetch%2DByram%20drought%20index

A Unique Freeze Dryer Shelf and Condenser Chilling System. Most lyophilizers(freeze dryers) are designed with a single refrigeration system, which is required to switch from product chilling to condenser cooling in the lyophilization phase. If the shelf heating cycle should demand both cooling and heating to maintain a given temperature set point during the drying phase(as is the case with long and slow shelf temperature rises), the refrigeration system must operate in the dual role of cooling both the shelves and the condenser in order to maintain operational vacuum. If the sublimation rate from the product is high, this can often result in the refrigeration systems inability to meet both requirements. Most manufacturers attempt to compensate for these conditions by oversizing the compressor, which can lead to overloading in the terminal phase, resulting in reducing compressor life and reliability. 1, record 31, English, - sublimation%20rate

The rate of an enzyme reaction(V) varies with the substrate concentration, increasing with an increased concentration until a maximum value(Vmax) is reached. 3, record 33, French, - concentration

Phenomenon which arises as a result of the build-up of a layer of rejected solute at the membrane surface which impedes solvent flow. The resistance to flow due to this layer thus increases until a point is reached where the rate of diffusion of solute away from the polarization layer equals the rate of deposition. This phenomenon also explains why the solvent flux often becomes invariant with an increasing transmembrane pressure drop. Although solvent flux through a membrane is a hydraulic pressure-activated process and should increase with increasing pressure, a point is reached where the rate of build-up of the solute polarization layer is such that flow is impeded and further increases in pressure have no effect. 2, record 34, English, - concentration%20polarization

When two electrical conductors are connected, an electrical resistance forms at the transition point between the two conductors. This resistance depends on the contact size and state of the surface. Since surfaces are never flat in microscopic measure, contact only takes place at the highest point. If one considers that the contact point is made by conductor metal on conductor metal, it is valid, as for all resistance, that the value is determined by specific resistance, the surface through which the current rate flows and the height of the "contact peaks. "The greater the amount of contact point surfaces there are, the lower the resulting resistance and consequently the greater is the capacity which the contact points can transmit. The conductors must be firmly pressed together so that the distance, the height of the "contact peaks" is as small as possible and the contact area as large as possible. 2, record 36, English, - transition%20resistance

Constant Volume Sampler(CVS). Motor vehicle exhaust is a complex mixture of unburned fuel, combustion products(including a high water vapor content), and intake air that exits the tail pipe at high temperatures. In simulated driving conditions on the dynamometer, the volume of the exhaust emitted from the tail pipe is continually changing depending on where in the driving cycle the vehicle is(for example, during acceleration, during deceleration, at constant speed, or at idle). To quantitatively determine emission rates from vehicles, we use a constant volume sampling system, which maintains a constant total flow rate of vehicle exhaust plus dilution air. With a CVS system, as exhaust flow increases, such as during heavy acceleration, the dilution air is automatically decreased and the sampling source is representative of exhaust variations. This CVS system provides the source for all exhaust samples collected(regulated and unregulated). Because some compounds present in the exhaust are soluble in water, quantitative transfer requires that the diluted exhaust be maintained above its dew point by providing sufficient dilution air through the CVS. In addition, sampling components, such as the raw exhaust transfer duct and sample lines, must be heated to prevent water condensation. 2, record 49, English, - constant%20volume%20sampling

Angular velocity is the time rate of change of angular displacement. More simply it is a measure of how fast an object is rotating. For example, the measure of a skater’s spinning speed during a sit spin is called angular velocity. Angular velocity is calculated by subtracting the initial angular position from the final angular position and dividing by the time it took to get from the initial to final position. Angular velocity is measured in radians/second (SI units) or degrees/second or revolutions/second (English units). 4, record 52, English, - angular%20velocity

As is often said, to know where we are going, we must know where we have been. Precisely, this path of development is what so many people study so as to be able to gauge the potential rates of technological growth that awaits us in the future. These studies point to a technological evolution which is not altogether unlike natural evolution : certain changes occur slowly, in a piecemeal fashion, but this slow evolution was punctuated by sets of major beakthroughs which sped the rate of development many times more or less suddenly. 1, record 57, English, - technological%20evolution

Record number: 69, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are four widely used operating configurations for gas fired appliances: modulating fire, on-off, hi-low, and multi-stage firing. Modulating fire is accomplished by mechanically varying the size of the gas admittance opening of one or more special "modulating" gas valves. With the gas valve completely open the boiler fires at it’s full fire rate. The unit is said to be at "full turndown" when it fires at it’s lowest firing rate. The "turndown ratio" is the ratio of full fire rate to full turndown firing rate and is a function of boiler design. A turn down ratio of 5:1 would indicate that a boiler is capable of a full turndown firing rate of 20% (5:1 (100% fire : 20% fire). 3, record 69, English, - modulating%20fire

2, record 94, French, - phase%20de%20l%27eau%20li%C3%A9e

[Paper drying] The drying rate varies along the machine. The first two or three cylinders into the drying section serve principally to raise the temperature of the sheet(the "warm-up zone"). Evaporation then quickly reaches a peak rate which is maintained as long as water is present on the fiber surfaces or within the large capillaries("constant rate zone"). At the point where the remaining free moisture is concentrated in the smaller capillaries, the rate begins to decrease("falling rate zone"). Finally, at about 9% moisture, the residual water within the sheet is more tightly held by physicochemical forces, and the evaporation rate is further reduced("bound water zone"). 1, record 95, English, - constant%20rate%20zone

At the bottom, pulp is continuously slushed from the column of cooled, softened chips by slowly-rotating paddles that are mounted on radial arms attached to the hub of the outlet device. The diluted pulp stock, which is under about 200 psig of pressure at this point, is then blown at a controlled rate, often to an atmospheric tank. The blow line typically utilizes a control valve on either side of a small pressure vessel with a variable orifice, so that there are three controlled stages of pressure drop. 1, record 96, English, - blow%20line

Rates are named from and to practically all stations in the United States and Canada. Some of the smaller stations, however, are not shown in the tariffs. In checking rates from or to such points, most tariffs provide a rule that the rate from or to the next more distant point shown in the tariff will apply to the unnamed point. This is known as an "Intermediate Clause or Rule". 1, record 100, English, - intermediate%20clause
