Utilizing two mirrors, a reflector telescope has a concave primary mirror located at the bottom of the telescope. It reflects inbound light to a pinpoint. A second flat mirror set at 45 degrees located below the aperture redirects the light, creating a focal point toward the eyepiece.

OBS

There are three main types of reflecting telescopes: the Newtonian telescope, the Cassegrain telescope and the Dobsonian telescope.

Les réflecteurs se servent de miroirs au lieu de lentilles pour refléter la lumière sur un foyer : le miroir primaire à l'arrière, gros et incurvé, qui effectue la première focalisation, et le miroir secondaire à l'avant, plus petit, conçu pour rediriger la lumière vers l'œil. Les réflecteurs sont également dotés d'un oculaire.

OBS

A reflector of this type greatly intensifies the heat at the point of collection allowing the storage system to obtain higher temperatures. This type of collector will only work with direct beam sunlight.

A microphone used at the focal point of a parabolic sound reflector to give improved sensitivity and directivity, as required for picking up a band marching down a football field.

CONT

Along with a recorder you will need a microphone. There are two types of microphones that are directional enough for bird song recording the shotgun microphone and the parabolic reflector microphone. The parabolic reflector is actually a combination of a reflector dish typically between 13" and 30" in diameter and a microphone. The microphone is positioned in the focal point of the reflector. This is the area where all of the sound is concentrated and yields an increased sensitivity that cannot be obtained by any other method.
