A number of methods for self-reference holography in white light have been proposed, and they can be conditionally divided into two groups. One is a group that uses a self-illuminating object or an object illuminated by an incoherent light source, considered to be a set of point sources that are not correlated with each other. 2, record 16, English, - self%2Dreference%20holography

Mothballing is the process of stabilizing a facility so that no damage occurs to the facility should it make sense at a later time to incur the capital expenditures associated with continuing to operate, extending the life, or repowering the facility. Typically, a decision to mothball a facility might be made as a hedge against, or in anticipation of, changes in market conditions; i. e., increases in relative fuel prices, or an increase in the value of installed capacity.... Typical activities involved in mothballing a facility might include the following types of activities intended to preserve existing equipment :-’Racking Out’ or removal and storage of motor control center circuit breakers or 'switchgear’(this would also be done for a facility that has been retired and is scheduled for dismantling)-Placing a heat source or desiccants in the furnace to maintain a temperature above the dew point(at which condensation collects and corrodes the boiler structures.)-The application of grease or other coatings to reduce corrosion of components such as pumps and motors.-The installation of an air desiccant system to blow dry air through the steam turbine, condenser, boiler tubes and pipes. 2, record 26, English, - mothballing

The Doppler effect on sound waves is experienced in everyday life. When an ambulance passes us, the siren appears to change its note. As it approaches, the pitch is high. As it passes us, the pitch falls. The effect occurs with any type of waves, including light. In the case of sound the effect was described by Christian Andreas Doppler (1803-1853), while for the light it was observed by Armand Fizeau (1819-1896). That’s why sometimes the effect is called the Doppler-Fizeau effect. 5, record 45, English, - Doppler%20effect

Effet Doppler.

Ray effects. An artefact related to the method of discrete ordinates, known as the “ray effect, ” is illustrated … For a two-dimensional case, which is easier to represent, we have considered the problem of a point source in a purely absorbent medium. The arrows represent the directions of the discrete ordinates, and the squares represent the meshing of the spatial discretisation. Because neutrons are obliged to travel along the discrete directions, we note that only the shaded mesh elements will “see” a certain neutron flux, since the others cannot receive any neutrons. The resulting lines are clearly visible on the diagram. In practical cases, the artefact is never so clear, since the sources are spread out and there is scattering, but it can still be identified. The only way to improve this situation is to refine the angular meshing. 1, record 53, English, - ray%20effect

In evaluating the performance of an antenna as a radiating system one considers only the field at a large distance, where the induction field can be neglected. The antenna is then treated as an effective point source, radiating power that, per unit solid angle, is a function of direction only. The directive properties of an antenna are most conveniently expressed in terms of the "gain function"... The gain function is defined as the ratio of the power radiated in a given direction per unit solid angle to the average power radiated per unit solid angle... The maximum value of the gain function is called the "gain"... The gain of an antenna is the greatest factor by which the power transmitted in a given direction can be increased by using that antenna instead of an isotropic radiator. 2, record 58, English, - gain%20function

Because the latissimus dorsi flap is not completely disconnected from its source at any point in the reconstruction surgery, it is therefore classified as a pedicle flap. During latissimus dorsi flap breast reconstruction, a tunnel is created beneath the skin from the back muscle to the breast area. Through this tunnel the surgeon transfers the flap; the few blood vessels that must be cut during the procedure are then reconnected with microsurgery. Once the flap is in place, the surgeon forms the tissue into the desired shape and sutures it into position. Finally, the back and chest incisions are closed. 5, record 63, English, - latissimus%20dorsi%20flap

Horizon sensors [are] the primary means for directly determining the attitude of a spacecraft relative to the Earth... The attitude of spacecraft relative to Earth is one of the most important aspects of attitude determination and control, particularly for communications(TDRSS), weather(GOES), Earth resources(LANDSAT), satellites, etc. Earth cannot be treated as a point source like the Sun, especially for near Earth satellites for which Earth covers about 40% of the sky. Therefore, merely detecting the Earth is by no means sufficient for attitude determination, even for the most crude attitude determination requirements. Hence most sensors are designed to detect the Earth's horizon. Horizon sensors are infrared devices that detect the contrast of the cold of space and the warmth of the Earth(or other body). 5, record 68, English, - horizon%20sensor

The term Attract & Kill(or Lure and Kill) is normally used for pheromone(or other attractant) based control methods that use an insecticide to kill the target pest. Mass Trapping, as the name implies, depends on the use of a mechanical device(insect trap) to remove the insect from the population. From a theoretical point of view, the approaches are very similar. Both methods rely on attracting the pest to a pheromone(or other attractant) source and removing the insect from the breeding population. 2, record 70, English, - mass%20trapping

Double-slit interference.... Young's experiment.... To explain the pattern of Figure 30. 2b, we accept the tentative hypothesis that light is a wave motion and that Huygens’ principle is applicable. Then we can understand the origin of the bright and dark lines by the following reasoning : A wave front from S reaches slits A and B. Each point on this wave front acts as a new source of Huygens’ wavelets. Since A and B are equidistant from S, the Huygens’ sources at A and B both send out crests at the same time, and half a cycle later both send out troughs. The waves from A and B arrive at the screen DF in such a way that at some points crests meet crests(Fig. 30. 2) and troughs meet troughs, thereby giving constructive interference and a bright line. At other points the troughs meet crests and crests meet troughs, resulting in destructive interference or darkness. The bright and dark bands on the screen are called interference fringes. 3, record 75, English, - trough

Constant Volume Sampler(CVS). Motor vehicle exhaust is a complex mixture of unburned fuel, combustion products(including a high water vapor content), and intake air that exits the tail pipe at high temperatures. In simulated driving conditions on the dynamometer, the volume of the exhaust emitted from the tail pipe is continually changing depending on where in the driving cycle the vehicle is(for example, during acceleration, during deceleration, at constant speed, or at idle). To quantitatively determine emission rates from vehicles, we use a constant volume sampling system, which maintains a constant total flow rate of vehicle exhaust plus dilution air. With a CVS system, as exhaust flow increases, such as during heavy acceleration, the dilution air is automatically decreased and the sampling source is representative of exhaust variations. This CVS system provides the source for all exhaust samples collected(regulated and unregulated). Because some compounds present in the exhaust are soluble in water, quantitative transfer requires that the diluted exhaust be maintained above its dew point by providing sufficient dilution air through the CVS. In addition, sampling components, such as the raw exhaust transfer duct and sample lines, must be heated to prevent water condensation. 2, record 82, English, - constant%20volume%20sampling

On peut alors recueillir sur une plaque photographique, située au-dessus du centre de courbure, la réflexion des petits segments du front d'onde. The mechanics of MEOR at a molecular level are really quite simple, but must be thoroughly understood to assess both the efficiency and the efficacy of the process. The microbes in MEOR are simply hydrocarbon-utilizing, non-pathogenic microorganisms which are endemic to, and are naturally-occurring in petroleum reservoirs. What this means is, they naturally exist in reservoirs, are safe for plants, animals and humans, and ingest hydrocarbons as a food source which they metabolize. As a result of this "digestive" process, they then excrete bio-products such as alcohols, gases, acids, surfactants and polymers, which because of their origin are all natural and non-toxic.... Changes in the Crude [:] The gases excreted by the microorganisms go immediately into solution in the crude, making it a solution gas drive reservoir once again. The gases, solvents and weak acids cause a reduction in the viscosity and the pour point of the crude, and an increase in its API(or specific) gravity. These three changes cause the oil to be thinner and to flow more freely. Some of the microorganisms inhibit the activity of SRB's, or sulfate-reducing bacteria, which also occur naturally in reservoirs, but cause corrosion in metal parts and produce the deadly H2S(hydrogen sulfide) gas. Changes in the Reservoir Rock [:] The surfactants, acids and solvents clean out the paraffin wax and the heavy crude depositions in the pores of the rock improving the permeability and partially restoring the original porosity of the rock. The polymers help modify the permeability of the rock by reducing the size of the molecules of reservoir fluids, and help prevent and control water-coning problems. The acids, solvents, alcohols and surfactants remove metal traces from the poral throats of the rock, helping to restore the original porosity and permeability of the reservoir rock. 3, record 87, English, - microbial%20enhanced%20oil%20recovery

Fixed gauge are most often used in factories as a way of monitoring a production process and ensuring quality control.... These fixed gauges consist of a radioactive source that is housed within a source holder and placed at a crucial point in the process. When the source holder's shutter is opened, an invisible beam of radiation is directed at the material being processed. A detector mounted opposite the source measures the radiation that passes through the material. A readout either on the gauge or on a connected computer terminal registers the required information... 2, record 89, English, - detector

Emitters usually have close, uniform spacings(e. g. 0. 025-0. 60 m) along a lateral line and emitters are either simple orifices, long path or labyrinth flow paths or a combination. Emitters may be embossed within the welded seam of the tape or they may be separate, pre-molded devices installed during fabrication.... The labyrinth emitter, designed with long intricate passageways, will create turbulent flow at normal operating pressures and is often called a turbulent or turbulent-path emitter. The turbulent flow resists plugging by allowing the flow path to be as large as possible and preventing small particles from settling or becoming lodged in the passageway. Flow rates from turbulent path emitters are also relatively insensitive to temperature fluctuations, thus avoiding a major cause of nonuniform water application under field conditions. Currently, most point source emitters utilize turbulent flow paths to control the application of water on tubing and some tapes, and are highly recommended for wine grape irrigation in the PNW. 2, record 100, English, - large%20turbulent%20flow%20labyrinth%20emitter

1, record 100, French, - goutteur%20turbulent%20%C3%A0%20circuit%20long%20dit%20%C3%A0%20chicanes
