In recent years, the performance of supercomputers skyrocketed, and at the same time, the access for data scientists to high performance computing technologies has been democratized, offering to policy makers the unprecedented opportunity for creating tailored policy using a completely synthetic population. Policy simulation models can take as input synthetic individuals that resemble the actual ones but are stripped out of their identities, as they are synthetic by design. Synthetic individuals are created by interlinking census data, behavioural surveys and other available data sets and the result is a synthetic population with average statistics similar to the actual one by design, to the point that one is not able to tell if an individual belongs to the real or to the synthetic population, with the advantage of being relieved of most privacy concerns. 3, record 1, English, - synthetic%20person

Cervical epithelial tumors are distinguished according to the tissue of origin, either as adenocarcinomas(tumors originating in the endocervical glandular epithelium) or squamous carcinomas(tumors originating in the ectocervical squamous epithelium). Generally, such tumors develop from precancerous lesions that are also classified according to origin and degree of cell transformation, as squamous or glandular lesions of low and high grade... From a histological point of view, precancerous lesions are characterized by abnormal cell proliferation, increased mitotic count, and a loss of alignment and uniformity of individual cells within the normal architecture of epithelial tissue. They may spontaneously regress, or may persist for a long time without evolving into invasive forms, and are therefore amenable to conservative treatment... 4, record 2, English, - precancerous%20lesion

The most important city of the province of Quebec, but not its capital. It occupies all the Île de Montréal(or Montréal Island), the biggest island of the Hochelaga Archipelago, at the confluence of the St. Lawrence River and the Ottawa River. In 1535, Jacques Cartier visited the native village of Hochelaga on the slope of what he named "Mont Royal, "but by 1608, year of the foundation of Québec, all the Iroquoians were gone. At the same location, Ville-Marie was founded as a missionary colony by Paul de Chomedey de Maisonneuve in 1642, though it was not until the conclusion of the "Grande Paix"(peace treaty) of 1701 that the colony stopped living in a permanent state of war. The establishment became the great centre of the fur trade and a starting point for expeditions by the coureurs de bois and voyageurs of the time. Trade from the port and agriculture on the surrounding plains contributed to the development of the city. By the 1820s, its population outnumbered that of the city of Québec. A dynamic merchant class began to invest and "St. James Street, "now "la rue Saint-Jacques, "became the country's financial centre. Around 1831, large-scale immigration enabled the population of British origin to be the majority in the city but, at the time of Confederation in 1867 and after, the francophones were again in the majority, gradually making the city the centre of the French culture in America. Erected as a municipality in 1832, the city underwent a steady growth with the addition of the territories of 35 towns over the years. If Toronto grabbed the title of "Business Capital" by the end of the 20th Century, Montréal remained the "Metropolis of Canada. "In 1996, the metropolitan region grouped some 111 municipalities located on three of the islands of the Hochelaga Archipelago, Montréal Island, Jésus Island and Bizard Island, and, on the South Shore, the city of Longueuil and the seven others that were to be part of it on the 1 January 2002... 2, record 5, English, - Montr%C3%A9al

The basic premise of a season pass follows the real world concept of a sporting season ticket, and gives gamers open access to time bound events and activities in a game's world. These frequently run for about 3 months before expiring, at which point a new season pass must be redeemed. With each season, developers offer fresh content, features and customisation options to incentivise renewal. This method of monetization is very effective as it means a game can continue earning revenue long past its initial release date. The concept has a long running association with DLC(downloadable content packs) release and can be seen as a refinement and serialisation of them. 2, record 15, English, - season%20pass

... scour monitoring at... offshore structures can identify and prevent disasters before they strike. While scour can occur slowly over time, flood events can cause rapid scouring, to the point of structure failure. As scour alters the elevation of the riverbed at a pier, a monitoring system can indicate when a bridge becomes structurally deficient and dangerous due to sediment erosion. While monitoring does not make a structure less susceptible to scour, a real-time alert can be sent out if a bridge becomes scour critical and must be closed. 1, record 20, English, - scour%20monitoring

Parking is a universal pain point for drivers. People are frustrated and stressed during the search for a vacant parking area, with city drivers spending 30% of their time looking for spaces.... Taking public transportation, such as buses and the metro, can help reduce parking-related congestion and air pollution. Nonetheless, private vehicles are still used for convenience. To reduce carbon emissions, we could replace all fuel-consuming vehicles with electric ones. Congestion would still be caused by the cruising of a vehicle to find a vacant parking space, even if we used electric vehicles. 3, record 28, English, - parking%20congestion

In 2012, [John Preskill] proposed the term "quantum supremacy" to describe the point where quantum computers can do things that classical computers can’t, regardless of whether those tasks are useful. With that new term, [he] wanted to emphasize that this is a privileged time in the history of our planet, when information technologies based on principles of quantum physics are ascendant. 3, record 32, English, - quantum%20supremacy

At its core, NVCC is capital that has a bail-in feature such that a firm can be recapitalized without an injection of taxpayer funds if it reaches the point of non-viability. A "trigger event" converts all existing NVCC capital into common equity and instantaneously recapitalizes the institution. It's very important to note that NVCC features will only be triggered by the regulator at a time of extreme distress(i. e., looming default, no access to capital) such that a firm is no longer viable. 3, record 58, English, - non%2Dviability%20contingent%20capital

The anomalistic period is the time that elapses between two passages of an object at its periapsis(in the case of the planets in the solar system, called the perihelion), the point of its closest approach to the attracting body. It differs from the sidereal period because the object's semi-major axis typically advances slowly. 2, record 71, English, - anomalistic%20period

Viewing Distance at Computer Workstations. ... Accommodation is when the lens capsule in your eye changes shape to focus on a close object. The eyes have a default accommodation distance, called the resting point of accommodation (RPA). That is the distance at which the eyes focus when there is nothing to focus on. In total darkness our eyes are set to focus at a particular distance, so that if the lights were turned on, an object at that distance would be in clear focus. The RPA averages 30 inches for younger people and gets farther away with age. 5, record 73, English, - resting%20point%20of%20accommodation

In such an environment, where you can’t see anything, your eyes are actually focusing on a fixed point in space, that is why it is called the "dark" focus. The ICBL was launched in October 1992 by a group of six non-governmental organizations : Handicap International, Human Rights Watch, Medico International, Mines Advisory Group, Physicians for Human Rights and Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation. These founding organizations witnessed the horrendous effect of mines on the communities they were working with in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America and saw how mines hampered and even prevented their development efforts in these countries. The International Campaign to Ban Landmines(ICBL) is a global network in over 70 countries that works for a world free of antipersonnel landmines and cluster munitions, where landmine and cluster munition survivors can lead fulfilling lives. The Campaign was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its efforts to bring about the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. Since then, we have been advocating for the words of the treaty to become a reality, demonstrating on a daily basis that civil society has the power to change the world. As a member of the Cluster Munition Coalition, the ICBL is engaged in the global effort to ban cluster munitions and to address their humanitarian impact. In December 2006, the ICBL decided to engage extensively in the global effort to prohibit cluster munitions. This marked the first time that the ICBL had become significantly engaged on an issue other than antipersonnel mines. The main reasons for the ICBL' s decision were that cluster munitions inevitably end up leaving behind large numbers of unexploded ’duds’ which behave essentially like antipersonnel mines; that many ICBL members had been already working extensively on cluster munitions; and that international efforts to achieve a global ban on cluster munitions were at a crucial point, a point where the ICBL could have a meaningful impact. 1, record 75, English, - International%20Campaign%20to%20Ban%20Landmines

1, record 75, French, - Campagne%20internationale%20pour%20interdire%20les%20mines

The economy exists entirely within society, because all parts of the human economy require interaction among people. However, society is much more than just the economy. Friends and families, music and art, religion and ethics are important elements of society, but are not primarily based on exchanging goods and services. Society, in turn, exists entirely within the environment. Our basic requirements--air, food and water--come from the environment, as do the energy and raw materials for housing, transportation and the products we depend on. Finally, the environment surrounds society. At an earlier point in human history, the environment largely determined the shape of society. Today the opposite is true : human activity is reshaping the environment at an ever-increasing rate. The parts of the environment unaffected by human activity are getting smaller all the time. 2, record 76, English, - human%20economy

Mothballing is the process of stabilizing a facility so that no damage occurs to the facility should it make sense at a later time to incur the capital expenditures associated with continuing to operate, extending the life, or repowering the facility. Typically, a decision to mothball a facility might be made as a hedge against, or in anticipation of, changes in market conditions; i. e., increases in relative fuel prices, or an increase in the value of installed capacity.... Typical activities involved in mothballing a facility might include the following types of activities intended to preserve existing equipment :-’Racking Out’ or removal and storage of motor control center circuit breakers or 'switchgear’(this would also be done for a facility that has been retired and is scheduled for dismantling)-Placing a heat source or desiccants in the furnace to maintain a temperature above the dew point(at which condensation collects and corrodes the boiler structures.)-The application of grease or other coatings to reduce corrosion of components such as pumps and motors.-The installation of an air desiccant system to blow dry air through the steam turbine, condenser, boiler tubes and pipes. 2, record 79, English, - mothballing

... a major container failure, into two or more pieces, at a moment in time when the contained liquid is at a temperature well above its boiling point at normal atmospheric pressure. A typical example is that of a propane tank engulfed in a fire.... When the metal fails, the liquid is exposed to atmospheric pressure and is well above its boiling point. Under certain conditions this results in a violent explosion. Once containment is lost, the liquid inside the tank boils, since it is no longer under pressure, and gives the first two letters of the phenomenon-Boiling Liquid. As the liquid boils, vapour is formed. The specific volume of the vapour is much larger than that of the liquid, so there is expansion-Expanding Vapour. There is an Explosion because there is a shock wave and the container is torn apart. 1, record 81, English, - boiling%20liquid%20expanding%20vapour%20explosion

BLEVE. [...] Diafiltration is an additional step in milk processing that is sometimes done to achieve a higher protein concentration. For many milk protein concentrates, the process begins and ends with ultrafiltration-without the addition of any diluent. Due to the fact that the milk protein concentrate is so thick after undergoing ultrafiltration, it has to be diluted to achieve a further level of protein concentration. At which point it is filtered a second time. This second filtration after the retentate of the ultrafiltration has been diluted is known as diafiltration. 1, record 82, English, - diafiltered%20milk

Gyroscopic precession... When force is applied to a gyro, the device reacts as if the force had been applied at a point 90 degrees from the point of actual application, in the direction of rotation. Precession affects propellers, which act like gyros, and gyro instruments. Its principle effect is on the heading indicator, which tends to drift over time. 8, record 97, English, - precessional%20motion

A gyroscope will not only resist being moved out of its vertical position, it will also generate force as it attempts to travel in large, circular patterns. These patterns are most easily seen with a spinning top. As the top begins losing its energy, it never simply spirals straight down in the same direction that it was originally spinning. As it destabilizes, it will always begin slowly rotating or precessing in a slow, even circle that is in the opposite direction to its normal spinning motion. These circular patterns are known as "precessional" motions, and they are another aspect of a gyroscope’s movement that will occur either in air or in a vacuum and can be used to overcome gravity. 9, record 97, English, - precessional%20motion

If an airplane changes suddenly from a nose up to a nose down position, as is the case during the take-off roll in a tail wheel airplane, the airplane will yaw sharply to the left as the pilot shoves the wheel forward to raise the tail.
