English

Subject field(s)
  • Symptoms (Medicine)
  • Cancers and Oncology
DEF

A lesion that may regress spontaneously or stabilize, or again degenerate into cancer.

CONT

Cervical epithelial tumors are distinguished according to the tissue of origin, either as adenocarcinomas(tumors originating in the endocervical glandular epithelium) or squamous carcinomas(tumors originating in the ectocervical squamous epithelium). Generally, such tumors develop from precancerous lesions that are also classified according to origin and degree of cell transformation, as squamous or glandular lesions of low and high grade... From a histological point of view, precancerous lesions are characterized by abnormal cell proliferation, increased mitotic count, and a loss of alignment and uniformity of individual cells within the normal architecture of epithelial tissue. They may spontaneously regress, or may persist for a long time without evolving into invasive forms, and are therefore amenable to conservative treatment...

CONT

DEF

The process of overlaying two or more images of the same scene acquired from different viewpoints, by different sensors and/or at different times so that the pixels of the same coordinates in the images correspond to the same part of the scene.

CONT

Regardless of the image data involved and of the particular application, image registration usually consists of the four major steps :... direction of control points candidates, control point matching, estimation of the mapping model and resampling and transformation.

CONT

CONT

A "rotation" is a sine-cosine transformation using two axes.

CONT

... convert days 1-365 to 1-360 and use sine/cosine transformation.

CONT

The meteorological data used... included hourly weather station observations of air temperature(°C), dew point temperature(°C), sea-level air pressure(hPa), total cloud cover(tenths of sky cover), wind speed(m s-1), wind direction(degrees), and occurrence of freezing rain.... Sine-cosine transformation was used to convert wind speed and direction into southerly and westerly scalar velocities.

Brouwer published in 1910 a recursive construction for cutting a region into three subregions in such an insane way that at the limit all three subregions touch at every point ... DEF

Of or pertaining to a transformation that maps parallel lines to parallel lines and finite points to finite points.

CONT

The most typically self-affine structures are diagonally self-affine. This means that they are invariant under a transformation whose invariant sets include any collection of straight lines parallel to the coordinate axes. A diagonal affine transformation is specified by giving a fixed point of coordinates and an array of reduction ratios.

Subject field(s)
  • Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Physics)
CONT

The bifurcation to which [this] equation gives rise(...) is called supercritical or normal. The limit cycle is created with a zero amplitude and at the bifurcation point, the system is in a state of marginal stability. This results from the presence of the dissipative term... whose effect... counteracts that of the instability. Consequently, the solution does not undergo a sudden transformation at the bifurcation but changes gradually. This is generally the case whenever the nonlinear terms of lowest order are such as to counteract the instability.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mécanique des fluides et hydraulique (Physique)
CONT

The clays transformed to sedimentary basins(...) obviously can be subjected to sorting of various kinds, and also to physico-chemical modifications. The latter are more difficult to demonstrate. These modifications, often tenuous but important from a geochemical point of view, will be called here "transformation"(...). These are physico-chemical transformations of inherited material; we shall speak of "clays transformed during sedimentation".

OBS
