CONT

English

Subject field(s)
  • Applications of Automation
DEF

A technique for programming robot motion, usually following a continuous path motion, but sometimes referring also to teaching point-to-point motions by using a teach box. For continuous path motions, the operator grasps a handle which is secured to the arm and guides the robot through the desired task or motions while the robot controller records movement information and any activation signals for external equipment. This contrasts with off-line programming, which can be accomplished away from the manipulator.

CONT

Point-to-point robot. This control method is perhaps the simplest and most frequently used. Teaching is done by moving each axis of the robot individually until the combination of axis positions yields the desired position of the robot end effector. When this desired position or point is reached, it is programmed into memory, thereby storing the individual position of each robot axis. In replaying these stored points, each axis runs at its maximum or limited rate until it reaches its final position.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Applications of Automation
  • Machine-Tooling (Metallurgy)
DEF

A robot used for spotwelding and consisting of three main parts : a mechanical structure comprising the body, arm and wrist; a welding tool; and a control unit. The mechanical structure serves to position the welding tool at any point within the working volume and orient the tool in any given direction so that it can perform the appropriate task.

OBS

An individual with no experience might think that a spot-welding robot and an arc-welding robot are the same but with different welding equipment. Actually, these are two different robotic systems; the control of spot-welding robot is based upon a point-to-point operation... arc welding... requires a continuous-path system.

CONT

Record 5 1984-03-20

English

Subject field(s)
  • Applications of Automation
DEF

(...) A system where the moving pattern of the manipulator is taught-in by means of recording a number of separate points. The exact time of recording for each point is decided manually. (SYMMI p. 7)

CONT

The robot is taught via a direct or portable control box using a PTP(point-to-point) system which records the various points on the required path and automatically ignores any superfluous movements that may have occurred during the programming.(FITI June 3, 81)

French

Domaine(s)
  • Automatisation et applications
DEF

(AFNOR I)

CONT

(NOVO Avril 81 p. 57)
