Particulate pollution is pollution of an environment that consists of particles suspended in some medium. There are three primary forms : atmospheric particulate matter, marine debris, and space debris. Some particles are released directly from a specific source, while others form in chemical reactions in the atmosphere. Particulate pollution can be derived from either natural sources or anthropogenic processes. 2, record 2, English, - particulate%20pollution

Visibility reduction is probably the most apparent symptom of air pollution. Visibility degradation is caused by the absorption and scattering of light by particles and gases in the atmosphere before it reaches the observer. As the number of fine particles increases, more light is absorbed and scattered, resulting in less clarity, colour, and visual range. 2, record 3, English, - visibility%20reduction

4, record 4, French, - pollution%20atmosph%C3%A9rique%20d%27origine%20industrielle

Atmospheric stability describes the thermal stratification or vertical temperature structure of the atmosphere. Generally, six or seven different classes of atmospheric stability are used to describe the atmosphere. When the atmosphere is unstable, pollutants can rapidly diffuse through a large volume of the atmosphere. 5, record 14, French, - stratification%20thermique

Most of the mineral matter in fossil fuels such as coal or lignite is converted during combustion to a fused, glassy bottom ash which presents no air pollution problems. Smaller ash particles called fly ash enter furnace flues and, in a properly equipped stack system, are collected efficiently. However, some of the fly ash particles escape through the stack and enter the atmosphere. Unfortunately, these tend to be the smaller particles which do the most damage to human health, plants, and visibility. 1, record 24, English, - ash%20particle
