The air quality health index or "AQHI" is a scale designed to help you understand what the air quality around you means to your health.... The AQHI communicates four primary things : 1. A number from 1 and 10+ indicating the quality of the air. The higher the number, the greater the health risk associated with the air quality. When the amount of air pollution is very high, the number will be reported as 10+. 2. A category that describes the level of health risk associated with the index reading(e. g. Low, Moderate, High, or Very High Health Risk). 3. Health messages customized to each category for both the general population and the ’at risk’ population. 4. Current hourly AQHI readings and maximum forecasted values for today, tonight and tomorrow. 3, record 1, English, - air%20quality%20health%20index

3, record 1, French, - cote%20air%20sant%C3%A9

Up to 1970, stream quality standards in the United States were largely the responsibility of individual states. The federal government became dominant in 1970 through passage of the National Environmental Policy Act which instituted the concept of environmental impact statements and established the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA). In 1972, the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments were passed which provided effluent limitation guidelines and authority to levy fines for noncompliance. This act stipulated a step-wise schedule for meeting conventional discharge criteria, the first target level by 1977 being equivalent to "best practical technology"(BPT), and the second target level by 1983 being equivalent to "best available technology economically achievable"(BAT). 4, record 6, English, - best%20available%20technology

: refus global). Between 1972 and 1977 several studies confirmed the hypothesis that air pollutants could travel several thousands of kilometres before deposition and damage occurred. This also implied that cooperation at the international level was necessary to solve problems such as acidification. In response to these acute problems, a High-level Meeting within the Framework of the ECE on the Protection of the Environment was held at ministerial level in November 1979 in Geneva. It resulted in the signature of the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution by 34 Governments and the European Community(EC). The Convention was the first international legally binding instrument to deal with problems of air pollution on a broad regional basis. Besides laying down the general principles of international cooperation for air pollution abatement, the Convention sets up an institutional framework bringing together research and policy. The Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution entered into force in 1983. It has been extended by eight specific protocols. 2, record 9, English, - Convention%20on%20Long%2Drange%20Transboundary%20Air%20Pollution

To improve public access to information on the environment and thus contribute in the long term to the prevention and reduction of pollution, the European Union(EU) is setting up a European pollutant release and transfer register(PRTR). Regulation(EC) sets up a Pollutant Release and Transfer Register(PRTR) at European Union(EU) level in the form of a publicly accessible electronic database. This database will meet the requirements of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe(UN-ECE) Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers, signed by the Community in May 2003. The public will be able to access this register free of charge on the internet and will be able to find information using various search criteria(type of pollutant, geographical location, affected environment, source facility, etc.). 1, record 11, English, - European%20Pollutant%20Release%20and%20Transfer%20Register

2, record 12, French, - instrument%20de%20mesure%20de%20la%20qualit%C3%A9%20de%20l%27air

Initially this programme was called the World Climate Impact Studies Programme(WCIP), overall objective of which was to assess the sensitivity of socio-economic sectors to climate variability and change. In 1991, additional task of developing options for socio-economic response strategies related to climate variability and change was added to the programme. The main thrusts of WCIRP include :(i) testing of methodologies for national climate impact and sea level rise assessment;(ii) providing coordination of national climate impact and response strategies programmes;(iii) improved techniques for making inventories of sources and sinks of greenhouse gases;(iv) developing techniques for national response strategies;(v) improving public information; and(vi) air quality assessment and air pollution mitigation strategies. 4, record 20, English, - World%20Climate%20Impact%20Assessment%20and%20Response%20Strategies%20Programme

6, record 24, French, - poussi%C3%A8re%20en%20suspension%20dans%20l%27air
