POLONIUM 218 [4 records]

Record 1 - external organization data 2011-03-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemistry
  • Compartment - Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission
Universal entry(ies)
DEF

A radioactive metallic element that is chemically similar to tellurium and bismuth. It occurs in pitchblende and in other uranium-containing ores, in radium-lead residues, and in old radon ampules... Symbol Po; atomic number, 84... All 27 known isotopes are radioactive; their atomic masses range from 192 to 218; and polonium 209 is the most stable isotope, having a half-life of 103 years.

Entrée(s) universelle(s)
DEF

CONT

"Radon progeny" means the following radioactive decay products of radon 222 : bismuth 214, lead 214, polonium 214 and polonium 218. [Radiation Protection Regulations]

CONT

... non-radioactive dust particles in the atmosphere can be contaminated with radon daughters as a result of electrostatic attraction.
