SANDO-SEAL is a 40 mil membrane-32 mils of pliable and highly-adhesive rubberized asphalt compound, completely and integrally bonded to an 8 mil, high density, cross laminated polyethylene film. Together they provide two strong, flexible waterproofing layers.

Each tank has a nominal diameter of 75 ft. The base of each tank consists of a steel-reinforced concrete circular pad with a radius of 41.5 ft. The edges of the base are about 2 ft thick, and the center is 8 inches (in.) thick, with the tank bottom dished toward the center. The upper surface of the concrete base was coated with a 3/8-in. asphaltic waterproofing membrane. This membrane consisted of three plies of cotton fabric; each saturated with asphaltic compound.

The freezing system uses a highly effective heat transfer technology for rapid crust-freezing of raw protein-laden products. A low temperature plate filled with recirculating refrigerant begins the freezing process immediately to set the product’s shape. With a firm bottom surface, the product has enough integrity to be transferred to a spiral or tunnel freezer where it can be deep frozen to 0°F. Including investment and consumable costs, mechanical freezing can be as low as one-tenth the cost of comparable cryogenic crust-freezing systems.

The "CASCADE" superCONTACT freezing tunnel(mechanical refrigeration) uses two thin conveyors(throw-away polyethylene film) enabling the individual Quick Freezing of food products, especially if they are wet, fatty or sticky and without any risk of the products sticking together. This new process enables ultra fast freezing in two stages : product surface crust freezing on film conveyors level N° 1, followed by deep core freezing on the lower level film conveyors. These film conveyors slide over refrigerated contact plates constructed for the recirculation of a mechanically refrigerated low temperature refrigerant.

A new development in mulch technology is the wavelength-selective film. It provides much of the weed control benefit of black plastic mulch, but warms the soil more than does black mulch. Thermic films, such as the IR-303 Thermofilm, were originally developed as greenhouse covers. They are reputed to reduce maximum and increase minimum temperatures slightly more than standard polyethylene films. These thermic films may have a role as hoop-supported row covers(tunnels). In a preliminary trial in 1990, the combination of black mulch and tunnels of either Lutrasil or IR-303 Thermofilm produced greater early yield than either black film or wavelength-selective mulch films alone.

Weed control from herbicides applied before the mulch may break down in advance of crop maturity. An alternative to the clear mulch/herbicide system is the IRT or wavelength selective mulch system. IRT mulches provide similar soil warming to clear film, while controlling most weeds like black plastic.

SMC Carrier Films. Two carrier films are used to transport the SMC through the impregnator. Normally the carrier films are 3-4 in.(76-102 mm) wider than the SMC product to prevent the resin mix from flowing out of the roll before the mix viscosity is controlled by chemical thickening. Untreated extruded polyethylene film of 200 gauge [2 mils(0. 05 mm) thick] is the most popular carrier film because of its more favorable cost. The carrier film should be pigmented in a color that contrasts with the SMC product to make it easier for the press operator, while preparing mold charges, to be certain that all the film has been removed.
