POLYETHYLENE RESIN [10 records]

Record 1 2016-02-25

English

Subject field(s)
  • Types of Paper
  • Photography
  • Photoengraving
DEF

Photographic paper that is liquid-resistant and absorbs little of the chemical solutions during processing, thus permitting shorter washing and drying time; may be treated with a resin, plastic, or polyethylene coating.

OBS

RC... was a trademark of Eastman Kodak Co. to indicate its resin-coated papers, but this abbreviation is now commonly used to identify any manufacturer's water-resistant photo paper, whether with a resin-coated, plastic-coated, or polyethylene-coated base.

Key term(s)
  • plastic-coated paper
  • RC

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sortes de papier
  • Photographie
  • Photogravure
CONT

Key term(s)
  • papier plastique

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
  • Plastic Materials
DEF

A polymer of ethylene [ethene].

OBS

A white, waxy thermoplastic whose repeating unit is [CH2-CH2]x. Low-density polyethylene is flexible and is used for packaging film, squeeze bottles, housewares, and wire and cable insulation. High-density polyethylene is more rigid and is used in bleach, detergent, and household chemical bottles, cold-water pipe, and garbage cans.

OBS

polyethylene; polyethene; PE: terms, abbreviation and definition standardized by ISO [International Organization for Standardization].

French

Domaine(s)
  • Éléments et composés chimiques
  • Matières plastiques
DEF

Polymère de l'éthylène (éthène).

OBS

OBS

polyéthène: terminologie officielle de l'IUPAC.

PHR

Polyéthylène gaufré, tissé.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Packaging in Plastic
  • Opening and Closing Devices (Packaging)
DEF

A closure which is generally made of resilient resin, namely polyethylene, that fits on a container through pressue.

OBS

A groove inside the cap skirt matches the neck bead. The size of the cap groove is normally slightly less than the size of the mating neck bead in order to allow a tight, friction seal.

CONT

The extrusion head used in blow molding is one of three basic styles : the spider or axial flow head, the side feed or radial flow head, and the accumulator head.... The side feed or radial flow head is a design most often used for polyethylene. Melt enters the head from the side, divides around the mandrel, and rewelds. As the melt moves downward, it enters the pressure ring area, creating a tremendous back pressure that helps ensure the resin reweld. The head is used for its simplicity and ruggedness, but has the disadvantage of relatively long color changes.

CONT

Ultrahigh-molecular-weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) is defined by ASTM as "polyethylene with molecular weight over three million(weight average) ". The resin is made by a special Ziegler-type polymerization.

CONT

Ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) is often extrusion blow-molded, particularly in applications where environmental stress-crack resistance is important.

CONT

The influence of joint line obliquity on lower limb alignment, ... Malalignment, ... may lead to excessive loading of the prothetic knee joint thus increasing rate of focal UHMWPE.

CONT

CONT

SMC Carrier Films. Two carrier films are used to transport the SMC through the impregnator. Normally the carrier films are 3-4 in.(76-102 mm) wider than the SMC product to prevent the resin mix from flowing out of the roll before the mix viscosity is controlled by chemical thickening. Untreated extruded polyethylene film of 200 gauge [2 mils(0. 05 mm) thick] is the most popular carrier film because of its more favorable cost. The carrier film should be pigmented in a color that contrasts with the SMC product to make it easier for the press operator, while preparing mold charges, to be certain that all the film has been removed.
