POLYGENIC OBESITY [2 records]

Record 1 2024-09-23

CONT

... rare forms of monogenic obesity distinguish themselves from polygenic obesity, which is the most common clinical situation... In polygenic obesity, each susceptibility gene, taken individually, would only have a slight effect on weight. Furthermore, the cumulative contribution of these genes would become significant only in an obesogenic environment(such as overfeeding, sedentary living, stress, etc.).

CONT

CONT

Genetic obesity is categorized into several types based on the way genes are involved... Monogenic obesity : Excessive weight caused by a mutation in a single gene.... Polygenic obesity : Variations in multiple genes contribute to the susceptibility to obesity in small ways.... Syndromic obesity : Genetic changes in specific diseases, like Prader-Willi syndrome, can directly lead to obesity.
