Record number: 43, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The straddle truck can be considered a true non-counterbalanced vehicle because the load capacity and stability of this vehicle are obtained from outrigger arms that straddle the load, hence the name straddle truck. By maintaining the load within the wheelbase of the truck, a very small and stable vehicle is possible. Because the load must be contained between the straddles, this vehicle is not suited to extemely wide loads since the width across the straddles becomes excessive and increases the aisle requirement of the machine. Sand-wedge polygons(tesselations) in the McMurdo Sound region, Antarctica...-A microrelief pattern of polygons 20 to 40 feet in diameter occurs in the perennially frozen ground of the glacierfree lowlands of the McMurdo Sound region... They are similar to ice-wedge polygons in the Arctic except that they are in ground devoid of vegetation and are outlined by textural changes in the soil between the inter-polygonal furrow and the enclosed polygonal areas. The term 'sand wedge’ polygon is here proposed for this widespread phenomenon.... When water seeps into the cracks in limestone gravel and freezes, it starts to sort the gravel. The larger pieces are sorted from the smaller pieces. This process continues year after year, frost after frost, until a frost polygon or stone stripes eventually form. Frost polygons are circles of gravel with the larger pieces sorted to the outside, forming a ring, and the smaller pieces on the inside. They are often mistaken for human-made structures such as tent rings and crop circles, however they are natural. 2, record 48, English, - frost%20polygon

flat shading : the flat shading method is also called constant shading. For rendering, it assigns a uniform color throughout an entire polygon. In practical graphics applications, one starts with a set of vertices for the polygon in user's co-ordinates. For the seed filling algorithm to work, first the borders have to be drawn using the border colour(normally, using Bresenham), after which an internal point has to be identified and then the seed filling algorithm executed. Filling algorithms can be used to determine areas of closed polygons at the raster level in terms of pixel numbers. The polygon is filled with a unique colour and then the number of pixels are counted which have this colour value in the frame buffer, or more efficiently within the min/max box of the polygon. 1, record 65, English, - seed%20filling%20algorithm

In cartography and architecture CAD systems it is usually necessary to have the capability to draw "automatic polygons. "These are closed elements with an angle at every joined line. The number of sides is up to the designer. The simplest automatic polygon is a rectangle(placed at any angle). This concept does not seem to have a set terminological unit to designate it in the target language. The concept does exist in the English language, however, as the following text indicates :"A frequency polygon is a line graph of class frequency plotted against class mark. It can be obtained by connecting midpoints of the tops of the rectangles in the histogram.... the sum of the areas of the rectangles in the histogram equals the total area bounded by the frequency polygon and the X axis... 2, record 84, English, - equivalence

One preoccupation of the Greeks was known as quadrature, or squaring : finding the area of a closed shape in the plane. The word quadrature refers to the nature of the problem : to express the area of any shape in terms of units of area-that is, squares. To the Greeks that meant the given shape had to be transformed into an equivalent one whose area could be found from fundamental principles.... The quadrature of any polygon follows immediately, because a polygon can always be dissected into triangles. Among the more intriguing... problems of mathematics has been the squaring of curved figures. 2, record 86, English, - quadrature

Les anciens Grecs ne calculaient pas les mesures des aires, mais les comparaient entre elles en déterminant leurs rapports. En particulier, ils comparaient les aires des surfaces à frontière curviligne aux aires des surfaces à frontière rectiligne.
