Geomembranes are very low permeability membrane liners and barriers used with any geotechnical engineering based material so as to control fluid migration in a man-made project, structure or system. 2, record 13, English, - geomembrane
Record number: 13, Textual support number: 1 OBS
Geomembrane : The term liner applies when a geomembrane is used as an interface or a surface revetment. The term barrier is usually reserved for the cases where the geomembrane is used inside an earth mass. Geomembrane is a generic term which has been proposed to replace many terms such as : synthetic membranes, polymeric membranes, plastic liners, flexible membrane liners, impermeable membranes and impervious sheets. These terms are not appropriate because :(i) synthetic, polymeric and plastic are too restrictive;(ii) geomembranes are not always used as liners;(iii) flexible membrane is redundant; and(iv) no material is absolutely impermeable or impervious. In addition, many users for these materials habitually designate them with trade names, which adds to the terminology confusion. Geomembranes should not be confused with other similar membranes used for such applications as single-ply roofing, floating covers and air supported roof. Also, geomembranes should not be confused with geotextiles [which are permeable by construction]. 2, record 13, English, - geomembrane

Also known as geofabrics, filter cloths, support fabrics, or civil engineering fabrics, geotextiles are membranes used to stabilize soils. For that purpose, permeable fabrics made of synthetic fibers with high tensile strength, even when wet, large modulus of elasticity, high ductility, and negligible creep when under load are usually used. ... These fabrics may be woven or nonwoven. Made of such synthetics as polypropylene, the nonwoven fabrics are needle-punched for permeability to water. 2, record 14, English, - geotextile

1, record 25, French, - mat%C3%A9riau%20g%C3%A9otechnique

Geomembranes are very low permeability membrane liners and barriers used with any geotechnical engineering based material so as to control fluid migrations in a man-made project, structure or system. The term liner applies when a geomembrane is used as an interface or a surface revetment. 1, record 32, English, - barrier

As a groundwater pollution control mechanism, the use of a liner on the bottom and sides of a landfill has been considered necessary for many years. This necessity is created by the moisture in the landfill materials (augmented by rainfall and snowmelt) interacting with the contained waste, forming a liquid called "leachate". ... The types of liners that have been used are ... numerous ... but the predominant liner material until recently has been clay .... There are two drawbacks to clay liners, however, both of which have given impetus to the use of geomembranes for landfill liners. 1, record 35, English, - landfill%20liner

Geomembranes are very low permeability membrane liners and barriers used with any geotechnical engineering based material so as to control fluid migrations in a man-made project, structure or system. The term liner applies when a geomembrane is used as an interface or a surface revetment. 2, record 35, English, - landfill%20liner

The key toward the reinforcement-based design of geotextiles in reflective crack prevention in bituminous pavement overlays is the fabric’s effectiveness as determined by laboratory testing or experience. Quantitatively, it is defined as follows: FEF=Nr/Nn where FEF=fabric effectiveness factor, Nr=number of load cycles to cause failure in the fabric-reinforced case, Nn=number of load cycles to cause failure in the nonreinforced case. Values of FEF vary widely when based on laboratory tests (as they usually are), the range being from 2.1 to 15.9 .... 1, record 37, English, - geogrid%20effectiveness%20factor
