POLYMERIC MATRIX [5 records]

Record 1 2023-03-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Medical Instruments and Devices
  • Scientific Research Equipment
  • Bioengineering
DEF

A flat plate with multiple wells used as small test tubes.

CONT

Assays of biochemical systems are carried out on a large scale in both industry and academia, so it is desirable to have an apparatus that allows these assays to be performed in a convenient and inexpensive fashion. Because they are relatively easy to handle and low in cost, microplates are often used for such studies. Microplates typically consist of a plurality of individual wells formed of polymeric materials. Each well includes sidewalls and a bottom so that an aliquot of a sample may be placed within each well. The wells may be arranged in relatively close proximity in a matrix pattern, allowing samples to be studied individually or as a group. Common sizes for microplates include matrices having dimensions of 4x6(24 wells) or 8x12(96 wells), although larger microplates are also used that may include matrices of hundreds or even thousands of wells.

PHR

96-well, allergen-coated microtitration plate.

PHR

Microplate holder, reader.

CONT

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
DEF

The use of synthetic polymers in view of producing microcavities or holes of specific shape within a polymeric matrix by imprinting procedures.

OBS

Basically, the use of polymers makes the system more complicated than with substances of low molecular weight, but in principle, the typical properties of the enzymes can be better mimicked, since enzymes are polymers as well.

DEF

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
DEF

The resin portion of a reinforced or filled plastic.

OBS

polymer: A high molecular weight organic compound natural or synthetic, with a structure that can be represented by a repeated small unit, the mer.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Plasturgie
CONT

Record 4 2006-05-10

English

Subject field(s)
  • Paints and Varnishes (Industries)
CONT

With the early organotin-based antifouling paints, the active ingredients were dispersed in the resinous matrix, the "paint" from which they "leached" into the seawater, killing barnacles and other marine life that had attached to the ship.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Peintures et vernis (Industries)
CONT

CONT

Polymeric-matrix composites are the most common type and find most applications where the temperature does not exceed about 200-400°F(100-200°C)

OBS

Polymer : a high molecular weight organic compound, natural or synthetic, with a structure that can be represented by a repeated small unit, the mer.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Plasturgie
OBS
