POLYMETHACRYLATE [3 records]

Record 1 2019-09-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plastics Manufacturing
  • Synthetic Fabrics
DEF

A transparent thermoplastic material produced by the polymerization of methyl methacrylate monomer.

CONT

Poly(methyl methacrylate)(PMMA) is by far the predominant polymethacrylate used in rigid applications because it has crystal clear transparency, excellent weatherability(better than most other plastics), and a useful combination of stiffness, density, and moderate toughness.

CONT

Major applications of PMMA include: automotive industry - rear lamps, light fixtures; acrylic sheet - bathtubs; glazing – signs; composites - sinks, basins and bathroom fixtures; contact lenses; bone cements; membrane for dialysis; dental restorations; road lines.

OBS

poly(methyl methacrylate); PMMA: term, abbreviation and definition standardized by ISO.

Key term(s)
  • polymethylmethacrylate

DEF

Record 3 2001-11-13

English

Subject field(s)
  • Biological Sciences
CONT

The thermostability of the copolymerized enzyme is... affected by the degree of its covalent binding with the support; or, the greater the number of linkages between the immobilized enzyme and the support, the greater the thermostability of catalytic activity. For example,... the effective thermoinactivation rate constant of [alpha]-chymotrypsin at 60 °C decreases more than a thousand-fold if the degree of attachment of the enzyme to polymethacrylate gel is increased by about 75%.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sciences biologiques
CONT
