A suppressor gene that allows the insertion of an amino acid into the growing polypeptide chain in response to a nonsense codon. In the absence of such a suppressor, premature chain termination occurs. They represent mutations in a gene for a minor transfer RNA(suppressor tRNA), or perhaps in a duplicate of a gene for a major tRNA species, so that a new tRNA is made which can translate a nonsense codon. 2, record 1, English, - nonsense%20suppressor

The last step in translation, i.e. the release of the completed polypeptide from the polyribosome and disengagement of ribosomes from mRNA. It is directed by specific terminator codons (UAA, UAG and UGA) in mRNA which are recognized by special release factors. When translocation places one of the terminator codons in the ribosomal A site, the ribosome does not bind an aminoacyl tRNA-elongation factor-GTP complex. Instead it binds a release factor which activates peptidyl transferase, which then hydrolyzes the bond joining the polypeptide to tRNA in the ribosomal P site. 2, record 2, English, - polypeptide%20chain%20termination

2, record 2, French, - terminaison

Record number: 5, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Nonsense mutations result in premature termination of polypeptide chain synthesis at the site where the nonsense codon occurs in the messenger RNA. Nonsense mutations can lead to a pleiotropic polar effect reducing the level of expression of genes operator-distal to the nonsense mutation in the bacterial operon. To select for nonsense mutations in viral functions it is necessary to isolate the mutations in a genotype carrying a nonsense suppressor. 3, record 5, English, - nonsense%20mutation
