CONT

Polyploidy can be induced with colchicine, an alkaloid of the meadow saffron(Colchicum autumnale) that inhibits mitosis... It hampers the development of the nuclear spindle. A mitosis that takes place after treatment with colchicin is called a C-mitosis. It enables an easier detection and identification of chromosomes than a normal mitosis does.

CONT

The most noticeable and consistent effect was the induction of c-mitosis through disturbance of the spindle activity, resulting in the formation of polyploid and aneuploid cells, and c-tumours.

CONT

My research interests may broadly be defined as encompassing both "pattern" and "process" aspects of plant evolutions. The former includes phylogenetic analyses of both organisms and molecules, while the latter involves efforts to develop increased understanding of interspecific introgression and speciation mechanisms, especially polyploidy. A large part of my effort involves the genus Gossypium(cotton), which provides model systems for approaching several objectives. Polyploid speciation is a conspicuous and important process of plant evolution, yet we know relatively little about genetic and genomic processes that accompany polyploidization.

Domaine(s)
  • Génétique
CONT

Chez les plantes, les polyploidisations entraînent presque toujours une spéciation instantanée, et ceci même en cas de sympatrie. L'isolement reproductif survient par un seul évènement mutationnel propagée par une période d'autofécondation.

DEF

A form of polyploidy or polysomy characterised by redoubling of chromosomes giving rise to four-stranded chromosomes at prophase and metaphase(STEME)

CONT

(Chromosomes and neoplastic disease) Among other changes endoreduplication has been reported in acute leukemia, and this may be one mechanism for the origin of polyploids. (CLICYT p. 418)

DEF

(PEDE T. XXIX, 2, 1974, p. 127)
