Also known as upside-down roof assembly, an inverted built-up roofing system consists of several layers installed in a sequence different from the usual one in which insulation is placed below the roof deck. First, standard built-up roofing is applied directly to the deck. Then, rigid insulation that is impervious to moisture, such as extruded polystyrene foam, is bonded to the top of the built-up roofing with a mopping of steep asphalt.... 1, record 2, English, - inverted%20built%2Dup%20roofing%20system

2, record 7, French, - polystyr%C3%A8ne%20extrud%C3%A9

Polystyrene foam comes in two major categories, expanded bead, and extruded. Expanded bead foam is made by superheating small pellets of styrene so that they rapidly expand(sort of like popcorn) to form a low density foam. Expanded bead foam is light(about 1. 5 pounds per cubic foot typically) and inexpensive, and because of the way it is made, lends itself to all types of molded products. It is the type of foam found in beer coolers and most contour packaging. It is also used as a cheap insulator. Because expanded bead foam has air pockets between the beads, it is less suitable for exterior use, for flotation, or for any application where water or water vapor can invade the air pockets between beads. 1, record 9, English, - expanded%20bead%20foam
Record number: 9, Textual support number: 2 CONT
Bead Foam. This material is produced from expandable polystyrene beads(granules)... There are two methods used in the preparation of the beads. In one, polymer granules are heated with a blowing agent(usually a hydrocarbon) that penetrates them. In the second method styrene monomer is polymerized in the presence of a blowing agent so that the blowing agent becomes entrapped in the plastic beads.... The expandable beads are converted to foam as follows. They are subjected to heating by steam, hot water or hot air to give pre-expanded beads; aged(or conditioned) for a period of time; the pre-expanded beads again heated(in a mould) so that they undergo additional expansion, flow to fill the interstices(spaces between particles) and fuse. This results in an integral moulded piece. 2, record 9, English, - expanded%20bead%20foam

1, record 9, French, - mousse%20moul%C3%A9e

Extruded polystyrene [XEPS] foam begins with solid polystyrene crystals. The crystals, along with special additives and a blowing agent, are fed into an extruder. Within the extruder the mixture is combined and melted, under controlled conditions of high temperature and pressure, into a viscous plastic fluid. The hot, thick liquid is then forced in a continuous process through a die. As it emerges from the die it expands to a foam, is shaped, cooled, and trimmed to dimension. This continuous extrusion process results in a unique foam product with a uniform closed-cell structure, a smooth continuous skin, and consistent product qualities, qualities unequaled by other insulation types. 6, record 10, English, - extruded%20polystyrene%20foam

Extruded polystyrene foam... There is considerable confusion about extruded foam, mainly because it is made by many different companies, and appears in many different colors and densities. There is "artboard", green foam, pink foam, gray foam, blue foam and more. All of these are extruded polystyrene. The lowest density extruded styrene foams all range about 1. 75 pounds per cubic foot. Curiously, extruded foam panels from the same manufacturer exhibit considerable variation in density... ranging from 1. 8 to 2. 1 pounds per cubic foot, all in the same batch.... Different manufacturers also produce different qualities of extruded foam. Some foam seems to have more impurities and air bubbles than others. 7, record 10, English, - extruded%20polystyrene%20foam

1, record 10, French, - mousse%20de%20polystyr%C3%A8ne%20extrud%C3%A9e
