POLYURETHANE POLYOLS [6 records]

Record 1 2010-05-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
CONT

Propylene oxide is reasonably anticipated to be a human carcinogen based on sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in experimental animals. It is used primarily as a chemical intermediate in the production of polyurethane polyols, propylene glycols, glycol ethers, and specialty chemicals.

CONT

FSP [flexible slabstock polyol, used in the manufacture of slabstock foams and polyurethane foam mattresses] is manufactured as homopolyol and hetropolyol [sic : heteropolyol]. Propylene oxide(PO) based polyols are referred to as homopolyols and those containing ethylene oxide mix are known as hetropolyols [sic : heteropolyols]. Both homopolyols and [heteropolyols] are used interchangeably by the foamers.

OBS

homopolyol : terme formé sur le modèle de «homopolymère», qui se rapporte à un polymère provenant d'une seule espèce de monomère et à partir de «polyol», syn. : «polyalcool», qui se rapporte à un corps possédant plusieurs fonctions alcool.

CONT

Flexible polyurethane foam has been in existence since the mid-1950s. Because of its performance characteristics it has a wide variety of uses. ... It serves as cushioning in upholstered furniture and mattresses. It protects carpet by providing a resilient underlay. Automobile and airplane seats contain foam. Packaging and medical applications are also common. Flexible polyurethane foam is the product of an exothermic reaction that creates a resilient cellular matrix that can then be cut to size for its intended use. Since the late 1950’s, auxiliary blowing agents have been used in the manufacture of polyurethane foam. Two main characteristics of flexible foam are density and firmness (or softness). Auxiliary blowing agents help control both of these characteristics. By vaporizing at an appropriate temperature, the auxiliary blowing agent produces additional bubble growth and, thereby, reduces the density of the foam.

OBS

Polyurethane is made during the reaction of an isocyanate and one or more polyols. It can be made into flexible or rigid foam and solid forms. The foams are good insulators, and used for products such as building insulation, car seats and furniture.

CONT

Our rigid polyurethane foam systems are closed cell thermosetting plastics characterized by high strength to weight ratio with the primary advantage being outstanding insulation and buoyancy. They are two-component systems comprised of an isocyanate and a resin compound which typically contains polyols, catalysts, surfactants, fire retardants and blowing agents. The uses for our rigid polyurethane foams are never-ending.
