The European Food Safety Authority(EFSA) was asked to evaluate polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) as a food additive used as film coating agent for food supplements... PVA is commonly used in film coating formulations for pharmaceutical tablets and capsules in Europe, Japan, and the United States. There is no evidence that such use has resulted in any adverse effects in humans. Generally, the petitioner intends to use PVA for coating of food supplement products in the same way as it is currently used in the pharmaceutical industry.

Any conventional process, e. g. dry spinning, wet spinning or dry-jet spinning may be employed in the present invention for extruding the polyvinyl alcohol dope solution through a nozzle into fiber but, for obtaining a fiber having excellent resistance to hot water aimed at by the present invention, it is preferred to use, rather than dry spinning process which employs a high concentration dope, wet spinning or dry-jet-wet spinning which performs spinning from a dope having a lower concentration, of which two dry-jet-wet spinning is most preferred since it can readily give a transparent, homogeneous gel fiber by rapid cooling.

OBS

Bio-therapy is based on the treatment using living organisms and has an obvious growth potential... Today, maggots from the gold fly are sent in special textile bags, consisting of a fine-pored PVA [polyvinyl alcohol] external layers and an internal, closed nylon net with spacers. This facilitates the use of maggots to combat wound infection, although they are not visible. The latest research at the IHB [Institute for Hygiene and Bio-technology] has the aim of isolating which substances in the maggots are chemically significant and coupling them to a textile carrier. The idea is that this slowly dissolves in stages over time in the wound, releasing the active agents in a controlled manner.

OBS
