Plastic pipes. Plastic used for pipe include Saran, Tenite, Plastitube, and polyvinyl chloride. The materials are useful for water-supply pipes and for the conveyance of some corrosive liquids at a moderate temperature and pressure... Among the advantage claimed for plastics... may be included freedom from corrosion, freedom from damage due to freezing of water in a closed pipe, acid resistance for solutions up to about 10 per cent concentration, light weight..., easy bending and joining, and adequate strength.

Types of Plastic Coverings... Polyvinyl chloride film has very high emissivity for long-wave radiation, which creates slightly higher air temperatures in the greenhouse at night. UV inhibitors can increase the life of the film. It is more expensive than polyethylene film and tends to accumulate dirt, which must be washed off in winter for better light transmission.

"In 1978, IDRC funded efforts by researchers at the University of Waterloo to develop a reliable handpump suitable for Southern conditions. The result was an inexpensive, lightweight pump made from rustproof PVC plastic".

Projet du Centre de recherches pour le développement international (CRDI). PVC : polychlorure de vinyle. En 1978, le CRDI a financé les travaux de chercheurs de l'Université de Waterloo qui voulaient mettre au point une pompe à main fiable, adaptée aux conditions d'utilisation dans le Sud. Ils ont conçu une pompe légère et peu coûteuse en polychlorure de vinyle (PVC), plastique inoxydable qui donne une eau inodore et qui a bon goût.
