Filler preparation used mostly in restoration of ceramics and terra cotta. Originally consisted of alvar(i. e. polyvinyl acetate resin), jute and kaolin; at present chopped silicate and synthetic fibres are used in place of jute. Originated in Great Britain; not often used in Canada.

Nature urea-formaldehyde resin etherified with butanol. Used for low-odour, acid-curable finishes, baking finishing and cellulose nitrate lacquers. Offers compatibility with most short to medium oil alkyd resins, various polyvinyl butyral and vinyl chloride copolymers, and cellulose nitrate. Contains low amounts of free-formaldehyde and high amounts of ethanol.

Wet binders are aqueous solutions or emulsions which are usually applied by spray to the preform with the inherent disadvantage that a portion of the spray coats the side of the plenum chamber. The solvent or dispersing phase of the binder is nearly always water(...). The actual binder may be any of a large number of widely known materials which include polystyrene, polyvinyl acetate, polyester resin, starch, dextrine and urea resins.

The three main groups are polyvinyl acetal itself, polyvinyl formal, and polyvinyl butyral. These are all thermoplastic ... They are used chiefly in adhesives, paints and lacquers, and films. Polyvinyl butyral is used in sheet form as an interlayer in safety glass and shatter-resistant protection in aircraft.
