Subject field(s)
  • Chemical Elements and Compounds
DEF

A polymer of vinyl chloride. [Definition standardized by ISO.]

DEF

A chemical compound in the form of white powder or colorless granules, derived from the polymerization of vinyl chloride by free radicals with peroxide initiator, used in piping and conduits of all kinds, siding, gutters, window and door frames, raincoats, toys, gaskets, garden hose, electrical insulation, shoes, magnetic tape, film, and sheeting.

OBS

IUP AC rules for source-based names of polymers specify that when "poly" is followed by more than one word, enclosing marks are used. The IUPAC practice is followed in this International Standard. In common use, the enclosing marks are often omitted.

OBS

poly(vinyl chloride); PVC: terms standardized by ISO.

DEF

Polymère du chlorure de vinyle. [Définition normalisée par l'ISO.]

DEF

OBS

Aluminer is a high quality metalized HDPE knitted net.The fibers are produced from a mono-oriented HDPE film, giving the fiber durability and longevity. After an aluminum metalization process, the films are covered with a special anti oxidation coating. The net is knitted into a precise uniform texture. The net meets ASTM-D 3887 standard.

CONT

[A microencapsulation process] similar to the liquid surfactant membrane has been developed which gives a permanent membrane [Kitajema et al. 1969). This, so-called, liquid drying method is carried out by emulsifying an aqueous solution of the enzyme in an organic solvent which has a boiling point lower than that of water(usually benzene, cyclohexane, or chloroform). The organic solvent also contains the membrane-forming polymer and surfactants. The emulsion is then dispersed in an aqueous medium, which contains protective colloidal substances(gelatin, polyvinylchloride) and surfactants, to give a second emulsion. Removal of the organic solvent by, for example, rotary evaporation from the second emulsion results in the formation of the microencapsulated enzymes.

OBS

The major advantage of this procedure is that no deactivation of the enzyme can occur as a result of monomer interactions due to the preformed polymer being used. Disadvantages of the procedure include the low yields of the microcapsules produced, due to problems of preparing the second emulsion, and the time required to completely remove the organic solvent which is essential for membrane production.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sciences biologiques
DEF

Geomembranes are manufactured from synthetic(thermoplastic) or bituminous products. Synthetic materials, mostly used in the Netherlands, are high density polyethylene..., low density polyethylene..., polyvinylchloride..., ethylene copolymer bitumen(ECB), and chlorinated polyethylene...

CONT

Ethylenecopolymer bitumen (ECB). ECB membranes have been developed basically for the roofing industry but are also applied in civil engineering as sealing materials. The raw materials used for ECB are ethylene and bytyl acrylate, together forming 50 to 60%, and a special bitumen, 40 to 50%. These materials are mixed in an extrusion process at a temperature of about 160 °C. The bitumen gives the material a thermoplastic character and also acts as a softener and a light stabilizer.
