POND CONSTRUCTION [3 records]

Record 1 2022-06-23

English

Subject field(s)
  • Aquaculture
DEF

An artificially enclosed body of water confined by a dam, dike, floodgate or other barrier, typically with fluctuating water levels and high turbidity.

CONT

While small-scale pond construction would probably have little significance adverse effects on the mangrove ecosystem and its adjacent coastal ecosystem, this is not the case with large-scale impoundment. The conversion of large areas of mangrove to ponds may result in the reduction of adjacent fishery yields. The question here is : will the [aquaculture] ponds be more efficient than the natural ecosystem?

Subject field(s)
  • Weed Science
CONT

Applying a heavy granular ester form of 2,4-D ... gave effective control of duckweed, coontail, watermilfoil, eelgrass, and several species of Potamogeton. The use of granular formulations holds considerable promise for aquatic weed control in still water, but not in flowing water.

OBS

Methods of controlling aquatic weeds include the following : proper construction of pond, competition for light, pasturing, drying, mowing, hand cleaning, chaining, dredging, burning, biological control, [and] chemical control.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Mauvaises herbes
OBS
