The creation of a posterior vitreous detachment is critical in pars plana vitrectomy for most macular vitreoretinal interface disorders and retinal detachments. However, PVD induction can be a challenging surgical step in young patients as well as in older patients with particularly adherent posterior hyaloid or abnormal vitreoretinal interface. Failure to successfully induce PVD [posterior vitreous detachment] can result in poor surgical outcomes such as persistent macular holes and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. 4, record 1, English, - posterior%20vitreous%20detachment%20induction

For CWRS [Canada Western Red Spring] and CWAD [Canada Western Amber Durum], there are specific limits for kernels damaged by grasshopper and armyworm, midge and sawfly; grasshoppers and armyworms chew out sections of kernels, particularly the ends and sides; at an early stage, armyworms may chew tunnels through the kernels; this destroys the endosperm, and leaves the exposed chewed areas susceptible to fungal and bacterial infections; heavy discolourations and moulds may result; the orange wheat blossom midge causes a distinct form of damage; grade tolerances for midge have existed for many years based primarily on the shrivelling and distortion of midge-damaged kernels; the tiny midge larvae feed directly on the developing kernels in the heads of wheat; the extent of damage largely depends on the number of larvae feeding on each kernel. Only recently have the full effects of midge damage on Canadian red spring bread wheat quality been studied, revealing the seriousness of midge damage to quality. The shrunken distorted grains reduce flour yields and produce dark flours with increased flour ash. Severely midge-damaged wheat exhibits weak, sticky dough properties, low baking absorption and poor bread quality. Protein content is abnormally high, but gluten protein quality is distinctly inferior. 2, record 11, English, - insect%20damage

2, record 11, French, - dommages%20caus%C3%A9s%20par%20les%20insectes

Fusarium is the principle cause of seed piece decay, as it is present in almost all soils, in storage and on handling equipment. Seed pieces can be affected when the soil is too dry or too wet. Seed cutting allows for a point of entry for the pathogens that cause the disease. These situations are more frequent than sterility which explains why pregnancies may occur spontaneously, possibly after many years of waiting. A shock or strut damps excessive vehicle spring motion by the controlled movement of fluid under pressure. Fluid provides the resistance to movement. The amount of that resistance is controlled by valving. Before Monroe gas charged shocks and struts, valve orifices could not be enlarged to increase riding comfort without losing damping effectiveness. So valving was compromised in one of two directions : soft or hard valving. With soft valving, fluid flows more easily. The result is a smooth ride, but with poor handling--and a lot of roll and sway. When valving is hard, fluid flows less easily. Handling is improved, but the ride can become rough. 2, record 19, English, - soft%20valving

Combustion in which the fuel is only partially burned, and is capable of being burned further under proper conditions. It results from an inadequate amount of air for the quantity of fuel provided. It can also occur, even in excess air conditions, if mixing is poor and/or the flame is chilled below the ignition temperature before the full combustion reaction can take place. An example is the burning of carbon, producing carbon monoxide(CO) ;with more air, carbon dioxide(CO2) would result. 1, record 30, English, - incomplete%20combustion

Catterall attempted to improve the predictive value of early radiographic changes in Perthes disease by identifying four radiologic signs that indicated a capital femoral epiphysis at risk for collapse. These findings are(1) Gage's sign(a small, osteoporotic segment that forms a transradiant V on the lateral side of the epiphysis) ;(2) calcification lateral to the epiphysis;(3) lateral subluxation of the femoral head; and(4) a transverse epiphyseal line. Murphy and Marsh found that these four head at risk signs and a fifth, diffuse metaphyseal reaction, correlated better with a poor radiologic result than did the degree of epiphyseal involvement.
