Subject field(s)
  • Artificial Intelligence
DEF

The determination of a sequence of operations or actions that may lead to a desired goal.

CONT

Successful problem solving depends upon knowing the initial state, and knowing what an acceptable outcome would be, and knowing the elements or operators that define the problem space. If the elements or operators are very large in number or if they are poorly defined, one is faces with a huge or unbounded problem space and an exhaustive search can become impossible.

CONT

Problem-solving process comprises three components: simulation of the environment in which the problem is being solved, solution planning, and fulfilment of the plan.

CONT

The interface is designed so that the student must solve each problem by selecting, labeling, and linking simple relational schemas, thus creating an explicit graphic reification illustrating the problem-solving process in detail ... ... this style of interface ... creates an extremely detailed trace of the problem-solving process ...

Evaporation may be high, in which case, some of these wetlands are strongly saline. Shorelines may be poorly defined or recessional. Freshwater situations are more permanent than those with saline waters.

Subject field(s)
  • Burners and Steamfitting
CONT

A floating flame is an indication that there is a lack of secondary air to the flame. In severe cases, the flame will leave the burner and have the appearance of a floating cloud. Again, the intermediate products of combustion are apt to escape from place to place wherever sufficient air for combustion may be found. This flame is sometimes hard to detect because, as the door to the equipment is opened sufficient air will be admitted to allow the flame to rest on the burner properly. However, the obnoxious odor of aldehydes may still be detected. Another possible cause of this flame is an improperly operating vent system. If the products of combustion cannot escape, fresh air cannot reach the flame

CONT

When a flame raises off the burner it is important to determine if it is a "lifting flame" or a "floating flame" :"Lifting Flames" rise from the ports to burn some distance above the ports. In some cases these flames will drop back to the port and lift again intermittently. They are caused by too much primary air. Decreasing the shutter opening will stop lifting flames. "Floating Flames" are long and lazy looking, poorly defined, quiet flames which roll around the combustion chamber sometimes completely off the ports. Floating flames result from too little secondary or "make up" air. Lack of secondary air can be caused by incorrect venting, clogged flueways, blocked secondary air inlet openings, or lack of natural room makeup air to the oven.

In relation to a charity includes a business that is unrelated to the objects of the charity if substantially all persons employed by the charity in the carrying on of that business are not remunerated for that employment.

CONT

The Income Tax recognizes a distinction between the "related" and "unrelated" business activities of charities. The distinction, as we shall see, is poorly defined at the margins, but the core idea is clear : a business is related if it directly advances the goals of the charity. The sales outlets of Goodwill Industries are a good example. An unrelated business, conversely, is one that does not directly advance the charitable purpose.
