POPULATION INVERSE [4 records]

Record 1 1998-03-17

English

Subject field(s)
  • Marketing
CONT

William J. Reilly developed an empirical approach in the late twenties and early thirties through an examination of some 1332 American cities. His Law of Retail Graviation states that :"... two cities attract retail; trade from any intermediate city or town in the vicinity of the breaking point approximately in direct proportion to the population of the two cities and in inverse proportions to the square of the distances from these two cities to the intermediate town. Record 2 1991-09-06

English

Subject field(s)
  • Statistical Surveys
DEF

A weight which corresponds to the inverse of the probability of selection of the unit in the sample. More simply put, it indicates the number of units in the population that are represented by a unit in the sample.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sondages et enquêtes (Statistique)
DEF

Poids équivalant à l'inverse de la probabilité de sélection de l'unité. En termes plus simples, il désigne le nombre d'unités d'une population représentées par une unité de l'échantillon.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Animal Breeding
  • Cattle Raising
  • Statistical Methods
CONT

The greatest technical advance in mixed model sire evaluation was the development of a simple method for computing the inverse of a numerator relationship matrix(A(exponent-1) by C. R. Henderson... The most interesting aspect of Henderson's discovery was that A(exponent-1) can be calculated for a large population in a matter of seconds from a list of animals and their sires and dams, whereas A may be quite difficult to obtain.

CONT

Best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP) of breeding values can include the inverse of the numerator relationship matrix.

Domaine(s)

  • Méthodes statistiques
OBS

Terme proposé à partir d'un article intitulé «Estimation de la valeur génétique des reproducteurs par la méthode Henderson» (Annales de la génétique et de la sélection animale, 1977, 9 (I), 33-42).

Subject field(s)
  • Atomic Physics
DEF

A nonequilibrium condition that exists when there are more atoms in the excited state than in the ground state. Atoms return to the lower-energy level, and release energy and emit photons.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Physique atomique
CONT

Si [...] on fournit suffisamment d'énergie pour faire passer un plus grand nombre d'électrons dans la bande de conduction que dans la bande de valence, on a réalisé une inversion de population.
