Subject field(s)
  • Genetics
  • Plant Biology
CONT

An accession is a distinct sample of germplasm representing a cultivar, breeding line, or a wild or cultivated population, maintained in a genebank for conservation and use. Its genetic stability is optimally preserved through careful monitoring and multiplication.

DEF

Échantillon de germoplasme d'une plante qui représente un cultivar, une lignée ou une population, conservé dans une banque de gènes et pouvant être utilisé à divers fins.

Record 3 2022-09-30

English

Subject field(s)
  • Collaboration with the FAO
  • Commercial Fishing
  • Environmental Management
CONT

The identification of stock structure is a necessary step for the effective management of multistock fisheries. As stocks are reproductively isolated from other members of the population, disregard of individual stock dynamics may alter genetic diversity of a population if one or more stocks are lost due to overexploitation or other causes... The knowledge of individual stock dynamics allows managers to assess fish population stability and set sustainable harvest limits. Monitoring inidividual stock dynamics within a population provides the opportunity to assess differential survival and contribution to the fishery. Once stock structure is uncovered, patterns in stock contribution can be managed by setting up measures to enhance or sustain stocks when annual production is lower than desired.

  • Protection of Life
DEF

The surroundings and conditions that are sufficiently protective for long-term security and stability to develop and where the population is served by a functional, legitimate, self-sustaining and resilient government.

OBS

safe and secure environment; SASE: designations and definition standardized by NATO.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sécurité nationale et internationale
  • Sécurité des personnes
DEF

Milieu et conditions offrant suffisamment de protection pour établir la sécurité et la stabilité à long terme et où la population bénéficie d'un gouvernement opérationnel, légitime, autonome et résilient.

English

Subject field(s)
  • Ecology (General)
  • Statistical Methods
  • Scientific Measurements and Analyses
CONT

Discriminant function analysis(DFA) was used to test how well instream habitat characteristics, and riparian vegetation and bank stability data clustered sites into redside dace population status groups, and to identify influential habitat characteristics. Habitat variables were standardized prior to analysis by subtracting the mean value and dividing by the standard deviation...

The adoption of a broader approach to national and global security, brought about by international concern over such issues as the environment, population growth and the availability of critical resources, is a clear factor of stability.

OBS

global security: term extracted from the "Disarmament and Peace Keeping" glossary with the permission of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

French

Domaine(s)
  • Sécurité nationale et internationale
CONT

Les notions de sécurité nationale et de sécurité mondiale ont été élargies en raison des préoccupations de la communauté internationale au sujet de questions comme l'environnement, la croissance démographique et la disponibilité de ressources essentielles.
