On peut choisir l'équivalent en fonction de ce que l'on veut exprimer. Le terme (fenêtre en) incrustation évoque les images en incrustation de la télévision. Les termes fenêtre surgissante, fenêtre jaillissante, fenêtre éclair, fenêtre flash et fenêtre furtive mettent l'accent sur le mode d'apparition de ces fenêtres. Le terme fenêtre contextuelle met plutôt l'accent sur le fait que cette apparition est liée à un contexte particulier.
