For a multi-pore membrane with high pore density, a large number of nanochannels are involved in energy conversion, and the total power generation is much greater than that of a single nanochannel. However, the interaction between the pores causes intense concentration polarization, which significantly reduces the driving force of ion transport. As a result, the output power density of the multi-pore membrane is only a few watts per square meter. 2, record 1, English, - output%20power%20density

It was revealed that the Janus membrane possesses the following features that could benefit the performance of the salinity gradient harvesting generators :(1) asymmetric factors in the membranes(surface charge polarity, pore size, and thickness of each layer) —this determines the direction for the ion flow,(2) abundant surface charge density, which ensures permselectivity, and(3) suitable pore size, which provides ultrahigh ionic transmembrane conductivity. 2, record 2, English, - ionic%20transmembrane%20conductivity

Membrane filtration is the method of choice for the analysis of fecal coliforms in water. Samples to be tested are passed through a filter of particular pore size(generally 0. 45 micrometre). The microorganisms present in the water remain on the filter surface. When the filter is placed in a sterile Petri dish and saturated with an appropriate medium, growth of the desired organisms is encouraged, while that of other organisms is suppressed.... A 100 ml volume of a water sample is drawn through a membrane filter(0. 45 µm pore size) through the use of a vacuum pump. The filter is placed on a Petri dish containing M-FC agar and incubated for 24 hours at 44. 5 °C(112. 1 degrees F). This elevated temperature heat shocks non-fecal bacteria and suppresses their growth. 9, record 6, English, - membrane%20fecal%20coliform%20agar

2, record 6, French, - g%C3%A9lose%20pour%20d%C3%A9tection%20de%20coliformes%20f%C3%A9caux%20par%20filtration%20sur%20membrane

K+ channels are ubiquitous membrane proteins, which have a central role in the control of cell excitability. In the heart, voltage-gated delayed rectifier K+ channels, like Kv1. 5, determine repolarization and the cardiac action potential plateau duration. Here we review the broader properties of cloned voltage-gated K+ channels with specific reference to the hKv1. 5 channel in heart. We discuss the basic structural components of K+ channels such as the pore, voltage sensor, and fast inactivation, all of which have been extensively studied. 3, record 16, English, - delayed%20rectifier%20K%2B%20channel

Nanoscale iron offers distinct advantages over conventional iron for in-situ applications in groundwater because they can be delivered to the subsurface without the need for excavation. This removes limitations due to depth, site structures and facility operations. A nanoscale colloid is small enough to flow through the pore space and associated pore throats of many granular geologic matrixes. The issues governing potential transport are not so much direct filtration, but the effects of gravity and the attractive forces at work on the mineral and colloid surfaces; this also includes agglomeration of the colloids in the injection solution. 2, record 36, English, - nanoscale%20colloid

Physical fouling by insoluble debris, fats, microbial activity or synthetic side reactions of the enzymes producing ’polymers’ can be particular problems with porous supports. Another soil process, which is of importance to subsea pipeline engineering, is dynamic liquefaction caused either due to the passing of individual(steep) waves or due to a gradual build-up of pore pressure in the soil due to repeated cyclical forcing, such as wave motion. As a consequence of liquefaction the soil loses its bearing capacity. Hence, a negatively buoyant pipe will sink into the seabed, but what is usually worse is that a buoyant pipe can work its way out of the seabed with potentially hazardous consequences. Although dynamic liquefaction has been studied for more than 20 years, we are still some ways from formulating clear design rules, partially because it is still not clear how important this effect is in the field; the evidence is contradictory. 1, record 48, English, - dynamic%20liquefaction

Controlled pore support prepared by heating borosilicate glass to 500-700 °C, when it undergoes a phase separation. Subsequent leaching of the borate component leaves a porous support with closely controlled pore sizes. However, it is not suitable for industrial purposes owing to its high price and lack of stability due to the continuous leaching of silica from the particles during prolonged usage in continuous flow systems, especially in alkaline media. Various methods have been employed to overcome the stability problem including the deposition of a surface coating of zirconium oxide by impregnating the controlled pore glass with a zirconium salt under vacuum followed by calcination to the oxide. 2, record 73, English, - controlled%20pore%20glass

AOS(apparent opening size) is the basic indicator of the pore size of a geotextile. The AOS test involves dry sieving of glass beads and ASTM D 4751 describes the standard methodology. The AOS actually measures the near-largest pore diameter in the geotextile. Using similar terminology as soil gradation, AOS is commonly expressed as O95(based on retaining 95% of a given size glass bead). There are other indicators opening sizes that design methods have used such as O90, O98, Of or filtration opening size(FOS).

Seton Lake area, British Columbia : Failure type is further described as "sackung" or "sackungen". The ridge displays "obsequent" or "antislope" scarps which are associated with large gravitational landslides on the scale of 10's to 100's of millions of cubic meter of rock. Movement is thought to be in response to stress relief experienced due to glacial unloading of oversteepened glacially scoured valley slopes. The majority of the movement possibly occurred following deglaciation when pore pressures would have been higher than they are at present day. Today, slides of this type are known to creep at rates of 10's mm per year. These creeping sackungen are a concern due to the potential for catastrophic rapid failures with potentially devastating consequences. 3, record 87, English, - sackung

5, record 87, French, - sackung

... bond formation is closely related to snow strength. Formation of bonds occurs by diffusion of water vapor through the pore space between grain as well as by molecular motion on the surfaces when crystals touch. Therefore, like metamorphism, bond formation is strongly affected by conditions at and near crystal and grain surfaces. Although curvature effects are not generally the primary driving force to move the water vapor through the pore space in an alpine snowpack, they can play a role in determining where water vapor molecules condense on a crystal to form a bond. 2, record 93, English, - bond

The production of hydrocarbon reservoirs, the exploitation of hydrothermal fields and mining activity in general are associated with microseismicity. Changes of the local stress fields and pore pressure can initiate sudden movements along existing faults or can generate new fractures which in turn result in the emission of seismic energy. Monitoring and analyses of microseismic events have the potential to delineate the internal structure of the subsurface, to obtain information on the present stress conditions and to image dynamic processes like subsidence and fluid flow. 3, record 97, English, - microseismic%20monitoring
