PORE COMPLEX [6 records]

Record 1 2012-09-05

English

Subject field(s)
  • Plant Biology
CONT

The pore, guard cells, and subsidiary cells collectively are referred to as the stomatal apparatus or stomatal complex.

OBS

In practical usage, the term stomata applies to the entire stomatal apparatus, including the guard cells.

OBS

stoma: singular.

Key term(s)
  • stoma

French

Domaine(s)
  • Biologie végétale
CONT

CONT

We report the cDNA deduced primary structure of a wheat germ agglutinin-reactive nuclear pore complex(NPC) protein of rat. The protein, termed Nup98(for nucleoporin of 98 kDa), contains numerous GLFG and FG repeats and some FXFG repeats and is thus a vertebrate member of a family of GLFG nucleoporins that were previously discovered in yeast.

CONT

CONT

The difference between the filter mechanism established by thick geotextiles, compared with that established by thin geotextiles, is another drawback of strip drains. With the thin geotextile, the very fine soil particles initially pass through, leaving the large soil particles to bridge across the pore openings in the geotextile surface. This process induces a beneficial filter layer within the adjacent soil. In the case of the thick felt-like geotextiles used for strip drains the pore structure is complex and the soil particles do not readily pass completely through.

CONT

DEF

The movement by mechanical action or hydraulic flow of soil particles into the voids of a fabric and retention therein, thereby reducing the hydraulic conductivity of a geotextile.

CONT

Clogging, blocking and blinding. If the geotextile pore openings are slightly too small, then there will be insufficient initial wash-through of fine soil particles to promote the rapid formation of an efficient graded filter in the adjacent soil. Where the geotextile pore openings are even smaller, then there is a serious risk that either blinding, severe blocking or severe clogging will develop with time. Blocking is where soil particles resting on the surface of the geotextile, either totally or partially obstruct the pore openings.... Blinding is a special form of severe blocking, where the soil grading permits the suffusion of fine soil particles which are too large to pass through the geotextile.... Where the size of many of the soil particles is very close to that of the geotextile pore openings, then they are likely to enter the pores and become trapped within the geotextile. This can cause severe clogging which is most likely to arise in thick non-woven geotextiles with a complex pore structure.

CONT
