Factors influencing the filtration performance of geotextile can be classified into four categories-external conditions(hydraulic gradient and loading state) ;(bio) chemical conditions of fluent(pH, hardness(e. g. [Fe], [Mn], [Mg], [Ca]), redox potential(Eh) for iron ochre, BOD and COD of water(substrate type/concentration), osmotic pressure and dissolved oxygen) ;the properties of basement material(coefficient of uniformity(Cu), coefficient of gradation(Cc), plastic index(PI), double hydrometer ratio(DHR) for dispersive clay, particle shape and grain hardness for granular soil, compaction degree of soil and saturation degree) ;and the properties of geotextile(filtration opening size(FOS), apparent opening size(AOS), fiber density, textile bulk density(mass/area), porosity, thickness and fiber material)... screen test results clearly indicated that the height of self filtration is proportional to the constriction size(Dc) of granular filter used. Additionally, they suggested the filter opening size value should be within the range between d50 and d80 for linearly graded soil and within the flat range in gap graded soil. 2, record 1, English, - opening%20size

It is imperative to note that EOS [equivalent opening size] values do not accurately define fabric pore sizes, pore structure, or filtration ability. For decades, filter media producers and users have adopted various techniques similar to the EOS test for measuring the retention efficiency of their products... Visual examination of different fabrics with the same EOS illustrates the variety of pore structure and porosity that can exist despite common EOS values... The EOS test provides a method for determining relative size of the maximum "straight through" openings in a fabric. And as such EOS values provide an indication of the minimum particle size the fabric can retain. EOS does not, however, indicate absolute retention efficiency for geotextiles; that is, a woven monofilament and nonwoven fabric, both with EOS=0. 210 mm, will not have the same pore structure and therefore will not provide the same filtration efficiency for all particle sizes. 1, record 5, English, - pore%20structure

Tests for Hydraulic Properties. Porosity or opening size of fabric. An important property insofar as drainage through fabrics is concerned is the porosity or size of opening of the fabric. This is most accurately determined by tests common to the area of quantitative metallography. Such devices as "image analyzers," which rapidly scan the specimen and give, by light reflection, the percentage of void to fiber, are ideal for this use. Most systems also have data storage capabilities which allow for scanning of a relatively large specimen and thereby obtain meaningful statistical data on the mean size of openings and the standard deviation or variance of these openings. 2, record 6, English, - porosity%20test
