3, record 4, French, - percolation

Duct lining or wrapping-A duct lining or wrapping is usually a sheet of porous material placed on the inner or outer wall(s) of a duct to introduce sound attenuation and heat insulation. It is often used in air conditioning systems. Linings are more effective in attenuating sound that travels inside along the length of a duct, while wrappings are more effective in preventing sound from being radiated from the duct sidewalls into surrounding spaces 2, record 10, English, - pipe%20wrapping

Lagging, pipe wrapping. Pipes and large ducts often transmit and radiate unwanted noise from pumps, valves, fans, and other equipment into quiet areas through which they pass. The sound transmission loss of the wall can be increased by the addition of lagging or a jacket including sound absorptive material covered by a heavy, solid, impervious skin of plaster, cement, metal, or mass-loaded vinyl. 3, record 10, English, - pipe%20wrapping

Efforts were undertaken by NAVAIR to make a new, porous, non-metallic, single-base ingredient bearing retainer material available to the bearing industry. The successful results of this effort... belong to the Naval Weapons Support Center, its contractor Singer-Kearfott, Little Falls, NJ, and their subcontractor, Dixon Corporation, Bristol, RI. The new material is a porous polyimide called Meldin 9000. The material was first developed by Dynatech Corporation in conjunction with a Charles Stark Draper Laboratory gyro improvement program sponsored by the Air Force. Laboratory-produced samples of the new material demonstrated a life of over 3, 000 hours as compared to a life of only 300 hours or less for a traditional material. 1, record 11, English, - Meldin%C2%AE

Evaporimeter(atmometer) An evaporimeter consists of a flat, porous ceramic disk(Bellani plate) in which water is drawn up by capillary action as water is evaporated from the disk. It is used to directly estimate crop evapotranspiration rate. Several commercial models can be easily installed near the edge of a field or on a roadway in a field.(The unit must be located far enough into the field to avoid field boundary effects.) One commercial model provides a green canvas-like material covering the ceramic disc to simulate crop leaf color. Reasonably good correlation has been found between field measurements and that calculated from Penman-type equations. Small difference in evaporation rates may be found between individual meters. Maintaining water levels and removal for freeze protection are necessary. 5, record 13, English, - Bellani%20atmometer

Enzyme immobilization method is based on the formation of covalent bonds between enzyme molecules, by means of bi- or multi-functional reagents, leading to three-dimensional crosslinked aggregates which are completely insoluble in water but which do not require the use of water insoluble carriers. This method involves the addition of the appropriate amount of crosslinking agent to an enzyme solution under conditions which give rise to the formation of multiple covalent bonds. 2, record 14, English, - crosslinking

In 1871 an adaptation of the linoleum manufacture was patented which became quite successful : Corticine 17 also called cork carpet. Its material make-up was identical to linoleum, but the manufacture differed in that the cork was not so finely ground and the linseed oil not so highly oxidised. This resulted in a more porous and softer surface, which, like kamptulicon, had a sound-reducing quality. Linoleum, on the other hand, had a smoother surface than corticine, rendering it more "hygienic" a quality in growing demand in the latter half of the nineteenth century. 2, record 17, English, - corticine%20carpet

The seed cultures in the bioplugs are a mixture of microorganisms selected for their abilities to biodegrade the contaminants of concern... The bioplugs are strategically inserted into the contaminated zone(s). Liquids then flow through the plugs by a pressure gradient created using compressed air. This flow acts to accelerate the movement of ground or irrigation water through the immobilized bed; thereby, facilitating the mineralization of organics within the aqueous phase and the bulk generation of biomass which bleeds off the bed. 1, record 19, English, - bioplug

A certain class of ceramic and metallic materials can be manufactured by the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method. Even though by now this process has included reaction systems of the solid-gas and solid-liquid types, the original work was directed towards the reactions investigated where not only the reactants but also the final products formed in the solid phase. These reactions are therefore generally referred to as gasless, solid-solid or condensed phase combustion reactions. 3, record 24, English, - condensed%2Dphase%20combustion

Condensed phase combustion is a complex phenomenon of theoretical and practical interest, in particular, as a method to synthesize materials. This combustion synthesis process involves a self-sustained combustion wave which propagates through initial reactants converting them into a desired product. In condensed phase combustion the initial reactants as well as final, and possibly intermediate products, remain in the condensed phase throughout the reaction. Though the combustion process occurs in a heterogeneous medium composed of reactive particles, typical models of condensed phase combustion treat the medium as homogeneous. 4, record 24, English, - condensed%2Dphase%20combustion

A deflagration analysis of porous energetic materials with two-phase flow and a multiphase sequential reaction mechanism.... A theoretical analysis for the unconfined deflagration of a porous energetic material is developed for a two-step global reaction mechanism that consists of the condensed-phase combustion of the reactive material to produce gas-phase intermediates, followed by a gas-phase reaction that produces final gas-phase products. 1, record 24, English, - condensed%2Dphase%20combustion

Combustion is a chemical reaction, it gives off heat and is self-sustaining. It can occur in a condensed-phase (glowing), a gas-phase (flame) or both. Fire results when a combustible material (fuel) in the presence of an oxidizing agent (oxygen) is heated to a critical temperature (ignition temperature). 5, record 24, English, - condensed%2Dphase%20combustion

The accumulator is intended for heating fuel components in the rocket and space engines and can be used in space engineering, aircraft and other branches of industry. The task of increasing gas heating efficiency, reducing mass of the construction, diminution of dimensions and lowering thermal and hydraulic losses of heated gas is solved by making a heat accumulating element as a mono-unit in the form of cylinder. The covers with branch pipes are recessed in the ends of the mono-unit. The covers are butt joined to mono-unit on conical surfaces through pressurizing end seals at forming the collectors for gas feed and discharge. Plate electric heater and channels or annular slot for flowing gas are located along the longitudinal axis. The axis of channels or annular slot location divides the mass of heat accumulating element into two equal parts. In so doing, porous insert or a set of badly stream-lined bodies is in the channels or annular slot. All units of heat accumulator are coated with gas-dense material. 2, record 27, English, - annular%20slot

The process of through-drying... Essentially, a hot, unsaturated gas is passed through a wet, porous material(e. g., the tissue web) by imposing a pressure differential across the material. As the hot gas passes through, heat is transferred to evaporate the water, and the gas leaves at a reduced temperature and with increased water vapor content. The intimate contact between the hot gas and the web, coupled with the large internal surface area of the porous material, produces exceptionally high drying rates. 1, record 49, English, - through%2Ddryer
