OBS

The old Custom House(now part of Pointe-à-Callière, the Montréal Museum of Archaeology and History) was built in 1836, to keep pace with the expanding Port. Goods could pass through customs here in Montréal rather than having to stop off in Québec City. This was the first building designed in Montréal by John Ostell, an architect from Britain who would go on to put his name to at least 25 major buildings in the city, including the Old Courthouse.

OBS

DEF

A system for harvesting the energy of waves (swell) in the shape of an on-shore barrier that retains and directs the water in a reservoir linked with a turbine for the production of electricity.

OBS

Energetech Australia is building a prototype electricity generator based on wave power on the breakwater at Port Kembla in New South Wales. A submerged chamber is open below the water level. When the waves rise up around the chamber, the water inside the chamber rises and falls with the waves. This compresses and decompresses air above the water in the chamber, creating airflow which drives a turbine. The turbines work with the air flowing in both directions. The blades change angle, depending on the speed and direction of the airflow … An ocean wall in the shape of a parabola concentrates the wave energy onto a central point where the power station is located … The amount of converted energy depends on the wind speed, the time the wind blows over the waves, and the distance it covers. During a wave's voyage, it shapes into a more regular wave, commonly referred to as a swell. At ocean shores, swells are very regular and discernable, even when the sea is calm.

A secret Port Authority plan for Ground Zero envisions a controversial transit concourse cutting through the North Tower footprint... The design has been shown to several stakeholders, including twin towers leaseholder Larry Silverstein-who sources said was furious because it calls for a major truck and bus service road beneath Greenwich St. Silverstein modified the plans for a new building at 7 World Trade Center to allow Greenwich to run through the site. The PA has since dropped the underground service road idea.

Urbanisme souterrain. [...]

The data set consisted of average daily traffic (a count of the number of vehicles passing a particular point) and design-hour-traffic-to-capacity ratio (a measure of congestion) for each of twenty years for each of the expanded segments and their matched pairs. Three different statistical approaches used to test for a difference in ADT and DTC between expanded and unexpanded segments consistently showed no statistically significant difference and thus "no evidence of induced demand".

CONT

As for investments in course, we are presently building the VILPL(internal connection route to the port of Leixoes), which will allow to achieve the following aims :... Increasing the average traffic speed near the port of Leixoes, not only port traffic speed but also of the users of the ICI highway, usually clotted due to an average daily traffic of 80, 000 vehicles;...

CONT

The concept of building major strategic port storages, suitably located to serve a large area, has caught the interest of many including, the FAO and the World Bank. The concept of building strategically located "transshipment" ports also has potential. Such facilities would transfer grain from large ocean bulk carrier to small coasters that could serve shallow receiving ports. Potential locations for such transshipment ports include the Caribbean Sea, the Mediterranean, Singapore, Hong Kong, and other ports on the coast of Mainland China.
