... the solution — off-throttle steering — is now taken for granted by most PWC [personal watercraft] consumers. Many may not even realize their craft have the capability for good reason. The inclusion of OTS into most craft is relatively seamless. The system works by detecting two coinciding occurrences, the abrupt release of the throttle and a full turn to port or starboard. Electronic sensors note the two situations, and respond by increasing RPM [revolutions per minute] just enough to once again push some water through the jet nozzle. That small blast of propulsion is just enough to start the craft turning in the direction the driver has turned the handlebars, hopefully allowing the craft to begin an evasive maneuver and avoid the object in the craft's path.

A dihedral wing is producing equal lift on the port and the starboard wing in straight and level flight. If the starboard wing dips, it's vertical lift component will begin to increase and it's horizontal lift component will begin to decrease until the wing is parallel to the flow(trigonometry and the lift force components on your wing) and at the same time the vertical lift component on the port wing will decrease. This makes the starboard wing rise and the port wing dip until it reaches it's equilibrium position(hopefully, level and straight).

The US space shuttle delivers the third port truss segment, the P5 Truss, to attach to second port truss segment, the P3/P4 Truss.

CONT

This truss segment, called "S5," is a mirror image of the P5 truss segment that arrived for processing at Kennedy Space Center in July 2001. The S5 truss segment is a 10-1/2-by-15-foot aluminum structure that will weigh 3,900 pounds when fully processed ... Items to be attached to the S5 truss include handholds to be used by spacewalking astronauts, a strut assembly, multi-layer thermal blankets, and the installation of the PVRGF.

CONT

The P5 and S5 segments are merely spacers that will provide enough room for the solar arrays to track the sun and not interfere with the other equipment, for example, the waste-heat radiators and antennas. The waste-heat radiators attached to segments S1 and P1 also must be clear of array movement.

OBS

The assembly sequence of the trusses on the International Space Station does not usually correspond to the number assigned to each segment of the struss structure. Trusses are numbered as follows : P1, P3, P4, P5, P6(port side) and S1, S3, S4, S5, S6(starboard side). In this case, the P5 truss is referred to as the third port truss segment.

The window can view 39. 5 degrees forward along the axis of the Station, 32. 2 degrees aft, and a total of 79. 1 degrees from port to starboard. The window is constructed of four panes. The outermost pane, made of fused silica, is designed to withstand orbital debris and can be changed out by extravehicular activity(EVA) if it becomes damaged. The two center panes, also made of fused silica, are the primary and redundant pressure panes. The interior pane, made of glass laminate, is called the scratch or "kick" pane. This pane protects the primary pressure pane from scratches and damage caused by contact with the crew, and has an ultraviolet/infrared(UV/IR) coating to protect the crew and improve picture quality.

In the summer of 1994 NASA approved adding an optical-quality nadir-viewing window to the U. S. Laboratory Module of the International Space Station. The window can view 39. 5 degrees forward along the axis of the ISS, 32. 2 degrees aft, and a total of 79. 1 degrees from port to starboard. The window is constructed of three panes of fused silica and a fourth protective kick pane made of glass laminate. From outboard to inboard, the panes are : OUTBOARD-An external debris pane that can be changed by an EVA astronaut if damaged. A redundant pressure pane. A primary pressure pane. A scratch or "kick" pane that protects the primary pressure pane from being damaged if the crew or equipment make contact with the window [and] provides a UV-IR coating to protect the crew members. INBOARD-The kick pane is removed during window research operations to take advantage of the full spectrum of radiation that passes through the fused silica panes. When not in use, the window is protected by the kick pane on the inside, and by an external cover on the outside. The external cover can be rotated in or out of position from within the cabin by an astronaut using a hand crank.
