Le scraper-rabot. Le rabot est à la fois un engin d'abatage et de chargement. Quant au scraper-rabot, il fait à la fois l'abatage, le chargement et le transport. Il marche bien avec une taille courte, de pente supérieure à 10°. Le scraper-rabot est une caisse dotée de couteaux qui attaquent le massif à la manière d'un rabot, mais le charbon au lieu d'être soulevé par un soc est ramené au bas de la taille par la caisse qui forme scraper. Pour cela, on le munit d'un volet mobile s'effaçant dans un sens et raclant dans l'autre. Les couteaux de ces caisses sont, soit fixes, soit orientables automatiquement, l'orientation étant donnée par le câble et inversée avec le sens de marche.
