A porte tache, or flask carrier, was a strap designed to carry a powder flask and a bullet pouch, and sometimes a spanner for wheel locks. Normally this strap was attached to the waist belt on the right side and hung straight down. It was most popular during the late years of the sixteenth century and the opening years of the seventeenth. 1, record 1, English, - porte%20tache

1, record 1, French, - portetache

In addition to their flasks or horns, the early settlers often carried a pouch for bullets. This bag, usually of soft leather, was customarily worn suspended from the waist belt on the right side. Sometimes the pouch and flask were hung together on a leather strap known variously as a flask carrier or portetache.... Another means of carrying ammunition which was popular for a time in America was the bandolier... [with which] it was customary to carry a priming flask and a bullet pouch. 1, record 2, English, - bullet%20pouch
