Robotic grasping and manipulation in unknown environments is made difficult by several factors.... To make robots cheaper, lighter, and safer, precision in the accuracy of end-effector position is often sacrificed. This introduces uncertainty in the position of the gripper relative to the object. Robotic grasping theory must account for such uncertainty in order to provide robust and reliable grasping in unstructured environments. One method for dealing with such uncertainty is robotic caging. Unlike an immobilizing grasp, in which the robotic hand grasps an object so as to prevent all motion of the object relative to the hand, a caging grasp only prevents the object from escaping through the fingers, while allowing some motion of the object relative to the hand.

Some papers selected single-arm space robots as actuators to touch and capture the target spacecraft in space. The in-orbit screw-driving manipulation by a single-arm space robot... can cause the rotation and translation of the target spacecraft. Since the target is a free-floating spacecraft that is not a fixed object on the ground, the target will have reactive translational motion and rotation when external forces and torques are applied to the target spacecraft during the screwdriving process. However, the translation and rotation of the target spacecraft can influence the control accuracy of the space robot, which may lead to failures during the screw-driving process. Unlike single-arm space robots, dual-arm space robots can use the cooperation of the two arms to accomplish more complicated space tasks effectively. Therefore, dual-arm space robots can be introduced to carry out the in-orbit screw-driving operation by the mission arm and maintain the position and attitude of the target spacecraft by the other arm.

Where positioning accuracy is concerned, it may seem surprising that the accuracy provided by the gyros has more impact than that of the accelerometers... This is due to the fact that navigation in fact occurs on a sphere, the Earth. It will therefore be readily understood that traveling along a straight line on the Earth comes down in fact to a rotation, and that rotation is detected by the gyros. In practice, gyros are subject to a zero-error known as gyro bias : When there is no rotation, a gyro should indicate zero, but in fact measures something that is the bias value. When an inertial navigation system is immobile, the gyros measure bias values that are integrated by the calculator and the unit thinks that it is rotating, and therefore advancing across the surface of the terrestrial globe, which generates a position error. It will be understood that position error shows linear growth over time and there is a direct relationship between the accuracy of a gyro and position drift.

Heading rapid alignment involves the operation of three distinct servo loops. The variation/grivation servo loop, the azimuth gimbal servo loop and the resultant positioning servo loop.
