An instrument that senses yaw movement about the vertical axis.It indicates a change in direction relative to the magnetic north pole. 11, record 1, English, - directional%20gyroscope
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 DEF
A gyroscope instrument for indicating direction, containing a free gyroscope which holds its position in azimuth and thus indicates angular deviation from a pre-set heading. 12, record 1, English, - directional%20gyroscope
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
The heading indicator (HI) uses the principle of rigidity in space for it’s operation. The gyro is mounted such that it registers changes around the vertical axis only; i.e. direction changes. The compass card attached to the gyro appears to the pilot as though it is turning. In reality, it and the attached gyro are remaining rigid in space, while the aircraft and case turn about the gyro. The HI is not automatically synchronized with the magnetic compass. It must be set to the compass heading while level on the airport surface prior to take-off. 13, record 1, English, - directional%20gyroscope

Record number: 1, Textual support number: 1 CONT
Record number: 1, Textual support number: 2 CONT

This instrument measures simultaneously the amount and direction of the deviation of a borehole. The sonde is fitted with a small camera on the axis of a graduated glass bowl in which a steel ball rolls freely and a compass mounted on gimbals. The sonde is designed to lie exactly parallel to the axis of the borehole. When a reading is required at a particular depth, the camera is electrically operated from the surface and takes a photograph of the bowl. The steel ball has rolled to the lowest point and so marks the amount of deviation. Its position in relation to the image of the compass needle gives the direction of deviation. 1, record 6, English, - Schlumberger%20photoclinometer

Two new tracking functions, BeaconTrac and OBS-Trac, expand tracking capabilities of the new Bendix RDR-1400 digital colour weather radar, according to the company.(...) BeaconTrac generates an inbound course to a discrete beacon. This course line is generated from the beacon display and can be rotated 360 degrees around the beacon with the HSI(Horizontal Situation Indicator) course selector. BeaconTrac will operate up to 80 nmi(about 150 km). Using the HSI course selector to position the BeaconTrac line, the pilot can readily determine an intercept or approach path.
