The term "even keel" is a nautical term used to describe a ship's position in the water. When a ship is on an even keel, it means that the draft of the vessel is equal fore and aft. In simpler terms, the ship's keel is parallel to the waterline, which allows the vessel to float or proceed in a smooth and level manner. An even keel is an essential aspect of safe navigation for any vessel. If a ship is not on an even keel, it can lead to listing, which is when the ship leans to one side or the other due to uneven weight distribution. 3, record 2, English, - even%20keel

Walnut wilt is a noninfectious disease which causes the sudden wilt and death of many plant species. The problem occurs in the beds of sensitive plants growing near walnut trees... The cause is an active compound known as juglone produced by these trees. Juglone has been isolated from the roots, leaves, bark, and husks. The compound can also be found in a narrow zone in the soil surrounding the living roots. Because of this limited distribution of the toxin, the position of juglone producing roots underground is reflected in the pattern of wilting plants above ground... Affected plants wilt suddenly and often show a browning of the vascular tissues just under the outer layers of the main stem... Some plants with mild tolerance may show stunting, lack of flower development, and/or lack of vigor. 2, record 16, English, - walnut%20wilt

A traditional concept of international relations which asserts that peace among nations rests upon a delicate international equilibrium, or international distribution of power, and that whenever one state (or group of states) becomes too strong and powerful (which could potentially upset that balance), other states are duty bound to diminish the power and the influence of that state (or states) by any means possible, including war. 1, record 21, English, - balance%20of%20power

Since balance of power sometimes means equilibrium, and sometimes means disequilibrium, it is not too surprising to learn that it sometimes achieves a position of majestic neutrality and consents to mean either one. In this usage, the balance of power becomes the equivalent of "the distribution of power"; just as temperature refers to a thermal situation, whether it be hot or cold, so balance of power refers to the power situation, whether it be balanced or unbalanced. 3, record 21, English, - balance%20of%20power

A stochastic process is said to be strictly stationary if its probability distribution is completely independent of time. It is said to be stationary in the wide sense(or to the second order) if the mean and variance are independent of time. 1, record 28, Spanish, - proceso%20estacionario

To obtain a "stratified random sample", the commodity to be investigated is considered as consisting of a number of sections(strata). The strata may be selected before sampling by any convenient method of subdivision such as time, quantity or space. One or several increments are extracted from each section, the position of the increments within the section being taken at random. The precision of sampling may be increased by planned distribution of the number of increments between the strata. 1, record 33, English, - stratified%20random%20sample
