A switch point derail …, sometimes referred to as a split switch derail, is a track switch installed at the derail location. The switch point derail can be operated as a power derail or as a conventional hand-operated derail. In both cases, the switch is activated from outside the track just as a regular track switch would be. However, there is no track extending from the diverging route. Scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM) combines the principles of transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy and can be performed on either type of instrument. Like TEM [transmission electron microscopy], STEM requires very thin samples and looks primarily at beam electrons transmitted by the sample. One of its principal advantages over TEM is in enabling the use of other signals that cannot be spatially correlated in TEM, including secondary electrons, scattered beam electrons, characteristic X-rays, and electron energy loss. Like SEM [scanning electron microscopy], the STEM technique scans a very finely focused beam of electrons across the sample in a raster pattern. Interactions between the beam electrons and sample atoms generate a serial signal stream, which is correlated with beam position to build a virtual image in which the signal level at any location in the sample is represented by the gray level at the corresponding location in the image. Its primary advantage over conventional SEM imaging is the improvement in spatial resolution. 3, record 27, English, - scanning%20transmission%20electron%20microscopy

[Location Certificates] are normally required by financial institutions with respect to the mortgaging of lands. They indicate the civic address, the relative position of the buildings on the lands to the lot boundaries, rights of way, etc. They serve as evidence to the financial institution that the house is actually on the lands being mortgaged. These plans are not registered in the registry office. Banks and mortgage companies often refer to these certificates as plot plans or survey certificates.(An Introduction to Property Law in the Maritime Provinces, 1981, amended to 1987, p. 51). 1, record 29, English, - certificate%20of%20location

equilibrium : state of balance. When a body or a system is in equilibrium, there is no net tendency to change. In mechanics, equilibrium has to do with the forces acting on a body.... However, a state of equilibrium does not mean that no forces act on the body, but only that the forces are balanced.... The stability of a body is a measure of its ability to return to a position of equilibrium after being disturbed. It depends on the shape of the body and the location of its center of gravity... A body with a large flat base and a low center of gravity will be very stable, returning quickly to its position of equilibrium after being tipped. However, a body with a small base and high center of gravity will tend to topple if tipped and is thus less stable than the first body. A body balanced precariously on a point is in unstable equilibrium. Some bodies, such as a ball or a cone lying on its side, do not return to their original position of equilibrium when pushed, assuming instead a new position of equilibrium; these are said to be in neutral equilibrium. 1, record 33, English, - neutral%20equilibrium

This computerized band was developed by managers to assist in the preparation of their Human Resources Planning exercise. It contains information on HRDC positions, employees, staffing action/adjustments, and Training and Development. Position information collected includes the Position number, title, group and level, exclusion indicator, language requirements, unit, reporting relationship(supervisor's position number and title). Employee information includes the Public service start date, birthdate, home address and telephone number, employee type(full-time, part-time, etc.) position title and number, location and telephone number, bilingual capability, employment history, career aspirations, mobility, training and development history(as well as proposed), date of last performance appraisal(as well as a BF for the next due appraisal). The system also keeps track of start/end dates for acting, secondment and assignment situations with an active BF system. Staffing action/adjustment module keeps track of areas which, in the opinion of the manager, will require some action to ensure that operational demands are met; this includes vacancies which are likely to occur due to long-term disability leave, maternity leave, care and nurturing leave, extended vacation leave and any other situation which will require attention. The Training and Development module records available courses, maintains a list of employees identified for each course through the appraisal process, as well as the status of this training(proposed, approved, completed). 1, record 74, English, - Human%20Resources%20Planning%20Information%20Program

The primary challenge in acoustic modeling is computation of reverberation paths from a sound’s source position to a listener’s receiving position. As sound may travel from source to receiver via a multitude of reflection, transmission, and diffraction paths, accurate simulation is extremely compute intensive. 2, record 75, English, - acoustic%20modeling

Computer-aided acoustic modeling tools are important for design and simulation of three dimensional environments. For instance, an architect might use such a tool to evaluate the acoustic properties of a proposed auditorium design. Or, a factory designer might be able to predict the sound levels of any machine at any position on a factory floor. Acoustic modeling can also be used to provide sound cues to aid understanding, navigation, and communication in interactive rates. For example, the voices of users sharing a virtual environment may be spatialized according to each user's avatar location. 2, record 75, English, - acoustic%20modeling

"orbital theory" : The quantum theory of matter applied to the nature and behavior of the electron, either in single atoms(atomic orbital) or in united atoms(molecular orbital).... In simple language, the orbital theory considers the electron not as a particle, but as a three-dimensional wave that can exist at several energy levels; its exact location and position in the "shell"(which in most elements is a group of orbitals) cannot be precisely determined, but only predicted by the laws of mathematical probability. The orbital levels and the movement of electrons within them are expressed by wave functions and quantum numbers. The probability that an electron will be found in a given volume(i. e., the square of the one-electron wave function) is called the orbital of that electron, and the shape of the orbital is defined by surfaces of constant probability(i. e. spheres and doughnut-shaped ellipses). The electron orbital, described in terms of probability, is like a cloud, with indefinite boundaries. 2, record 90, English, - orbital

«Orbitale atomique» ou «moléculaire» : distribution spatiale d'un électron dans un atome, des électrons de liaison dans une molécule. (Dans la mesure où, en théorie quantique, le carré du module de la fonction d'onde de l'électron représente sa densité de probabilité de localisation, le mot «orbitale» est souvent entendu en un sens synonyme de «fonction d'onde». 2, record 90, French, - orbitale
