The Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) has approved the use of Allied Signal' s enhanced ground proximity warning system(EGPWS) on all American Airlines Boeing 757 aircraft.... The new EGPWS provides a detailed map of the terrain in the vicinity of the aircraft. Using an existing navigation system, such as the Global Positioning System(GPS), the aircraft's position is correlated with a database-driven terrain map which provides the pilot with real time awareness of the aircraft's position. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre(PTWC) in Hawaii has overall responsibility for issuing tsunami advices and warnings to ITSU members. It is operated by the National Weather Service of the USA. V-bar : Flight Director Indicator... The V-bar command indicator is a pair of yellow, wedge-shaped V-bars that move up or down to command a climb or descent, and roll left or right to command a bank. The flight director system commands the V-bars to capture and track the selected heading or radio signals; or to maintain a desired pitch angle, glidepath, or an optimum speed during SC(speed command) operation. To satisfy the commands, the aircraft is maneuvered so that the airplane symbol is flown into the V-bars until the two are aligned. Input signals to the V-bars depend upon the mode of operation. Le dispositif britannique est officiellement appelé "Laser True Airspeed System" ou LATAS (système laser de mesure de la vitesse propre), mais il serait sans doute plus exact de le considérer comme un système de mesure de la vitesse propre "possible" ou "future", puisque son rôle est d'indiquer au pilote quelle sera la vitesse de l'avion lorsqu'il traversera une zone située à une faible distance de la position du moment. Normalement, cette distance sera de l'ordre de 500 à 600 m, ce qui, aux vitesses normales d'approche (360 à 450 km/h), devrait avertir le pilote quatre à six secondes à l'avance des modifications imminentes de la vitesse propre et lui permettre de prendre les mesures correctives nécessaires.
