The Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) has approved the use of Allied Signal' s enhanced ground proximity warning system(EGPWS) on all American Airlines Boeing 757 aircraft.... The new EGPWS provides a detailed map of the terrain in the vicinity of the aircraft. Using an existing navigation system, such as the Global Positioning System(GPS), the aircraft's position is correlated with a database-driven terrain map which provides the pilot with real time awareness of the aircraft's position. The moving map, which is displayed on a cockpit screen, will aid the pilot in maintaining proper altitude and terrain clearance. 3, record 2, English, - enhanced%20ground%20proximity%20warning%20system

Ottawa : Health Canada, c2007. Canada's first food guide, the Official Food Rules, was introduced to the public in July 1942. This guide acknowledged wartime food rationing, while endeavoring to prevent nutritional deficiencies and to improve the health of Canadians. Since 1942, the food guide has been transformed many times-it has adopted new names, new looks, and new messages, yet has never wavered from its original purpose of guiding food selection and promoting the nutritional health of Canadians. The title of Canada's food guides has changed over time. Canada's Official Food Rules(1942) became Canada's Food Rules(1944, 1949), then Canada's Food Guide(1961, 1977, 1982). Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating(1992) has now evolved to Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide(2007). The title changes signify an evolution in the positioning and philosophy of the food guide. This report documents the processes and influences that shaped the development of Canada's food guides, the changes that occurred from the 1942 Official Food Rules to the 2007 Eating Well with Canada's Food Guide, and the strategies that were used to encourage Canadians to follow the guides. 1, record 6, English, - Eating%20Well%20with%20Canada%26rsquo%3Bs%20Food%20Guide

Skimboarding(or skimming) is a sport which involves riding a board on an outgoing wave.... Unlike surfing, skimboarding starts on the beach. The skimboarder stands within running distance from the point of entry into the water with the skimboard in hand and waits for a wave. As the desired wave approaches, the skimboarder runs towards the water. Depending on conditions, the board is dropped on a thin layer of water from a receding wave or on the thicker water in front of the wave. Then he or she runs onto the board one foot at a time using a technique known as the "One-Step" while properly positioning the feet and maintaining balance towards the centre of the board. 4, record 13, English, - skimboarding

The SEM subsystem consists of four instruments used for in situ measurements and monitoring of the near-earth(geostationary altitude) space environment and for observing the solar X-ray output. An energetic particles sensor(EPS) and high energy proton and alpha detector(HEPAD) monitor the incident flux density of protons, alpha particles, and electrons over an extensive range of energy levels. Solar output is monitored by an X-ray sensor(XRS) mounted on an X-ray positioning platform, fixed on the solar array yoke. Two redundant three-axis magnetometers, mounted on a deployed 3-meter boom, operate one at a time to monitor Earth's geomagnetic field strength in the vicinity of the spacecraft. The SEM instruments are capable of ground command-selectable, in-flight calibration for monitoring on-orbit performance and ensuring proper operation. 3, record 14, English, - space%2Denvironment%20monitor

The Space Environment Monitor (SEM) measures in situ the effect of the Sun on the near-earth solar-terrestrial electromagnetic environment, providing real-time data to the Space Environment Services Center (SESC). The SESC, as the nation’s "space weather" service, receives, monitors, and interprets a wide variety of solar-terrestrial data, and issues reports, alerts and forecasts for special events such as solar flares or geomagnetic storms. This information is important to the operation of military and civilian radio wave and satellite communication and navigation systems, as well as electric power networks, and to the mission of geophysical explorers, Shuttle and Space Station astronauts, high-altitude aviators, and scientific researchers. 3, record 14, English, - space%2Denvironment%20monitor

For this adjustment, the blocks were named by state and every GPS [global positioning system] project was assigned to a specific state block. This resulted in some data collected in one state appearing in another state Block but prevented splitting sessions of observations and minimizing junction points. Blocks are combined two at a time, reducing the number of station coordinates to be estimated to only those stations that are associated with GPS observations belonging to other blocks. Eventually only one block remains and a solution for the coordinates of its stations can be performed. 7, record 15, English, - Helmert%20blocking%20method

Where positioning accuracy is concerned, it may seem surprising that the accuracy provided by the gyros has more impact than that of the accelerometers... This is due to the fact that navigation in fact occurs on a sphere, the Earth. It will therefore be readily understood that traveling along a straight line on the Earth comes down in fact to a rotation, and that rotation is detected by the gyros. In practice, gyros are subject to a zero-error known as gyro bias : When there is no rotation, a gyro should indicate zero, but in fact measures something that is the bias value. When an inertial navigation system is immobile, the gyros measure bias values that are integrated by the calculator and the unit thinks that it is rotating, and therefore advancing across the surface of the terrestrial globe, which generates a position error. It will be understood that position error shows linear growth over time and there is a direct relationship between the accuracy of a gyro and position drift. 1, record 22, English, - zero%2Derror

3, record 24, French, - t%C3%A9l%C3%A9m%C3%A8tre%20%C3%A9lectronique
