Microorganisms in the surface layers of the ocean are known to produce dimethylsulfide, DMS, which escapes into the atmosphere. DMS in the air leads to the production of particles that act as seeds, or nuclei, for cloud droplets to form. More solar energy means more DMS, which means more cloud cover and less solar energy reaching the sea--a stabilizing, negative feedback, just the opposite of the kind of runaway positive feedback envisaged in Mahlman's scary scenario. 10, record 15, English, - %28methylsulfanyl%29methane

Drug which increases the contractility of the heart muscle. The most commonly used glycosides acting on the heart are obtained from the leaves of Digitalis purpurea and lanata, from the seeds of Strophantus kombé and gratus, and also from the squill. Cardiac glycosides act by raising the concentration of calcium ions available intracellularly for electromechanical coupling. They thus exert a positive inotropic effect on the healthy, the hypertrophied, the still adequate, and the failing heart. 2, record 29, English, - cardiac%20glycoside

The genetic barrier which separates Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli is primarily recombinational. The structural component of this barrier is genomic sequence divergence. The mismatch repair enzymes act as inhibitors of interspecies recombination, whereas the SOS system acts as an inducible positive regulator. These genetic systems control also the genomic stability in bacterial populations. 2, record 32, English, - mismatch%20repair%20enzymes%20system

1, record 32, French, - syst%C3%A8me%20de%20r%C3%A9paration%20des%20m%C3%A9sappariements
