Inertia welding (friction welding) has become a viable production welding method for parts having radial symmetry such as compressor drums. In this process, the metal preparation procedures are the same as for other techniques. The essence of the method is to convert rotational kinetic energy into heat to bring about controlled degrees of fusion and extrusion. Inertia welding can be done in air.

Intertia friction welding. Two workpiece parts to be joined are clamped rigidly in a sturdy fixed unit usually called the tailstock fixture and a rotating chuck assembly or collet drive. The spindle assembly, which includes one of the workpieces and any required flywheels, is rapidly accelerated to a pre-calculated speed, storing the energy required for welding. The spindle is disconnected from the drive source and begins to freewheel. At the same time, the ram assembly moves the non-rotating part axially to force both workpieces together, also a predetermined calculated(lbs.) thrust load. While the workpieces are thrust tightly together, friction between the interfaces convert kinetic energy stored in the rotating spindle and flywheel assemblies into heat at the interface, and finally into mechanical working of the plastic metals.

Refers to treatment outcome analyses in which all individuals (dropouts and completers) are included. Data from dropouts are collected at the point at which they leave the study. Because this approach assumes that drop outs would not have continued to improve if they had remained in treatment, end-point analyses may underestimate the efficacy of a particular treatment.

The instrument consists of a smooth-walled cylinder in which is a piston. The piston is mechanically raised at a predetermined frequency and is allowed to fall freely back to its minimum position. Within the cylinder is an accurately machined orifice through which the measured material enters the cylinder when the piston is raised and is displaced by the weight of the piston on its free fall. Thus the measurement of the time required by the piston to displace the material through the orifice is directly proportional to the viscosity of the material.

The schematic view of the falling-piston type of viscosity measuring element shows the piston arrangement which is immersed in the liquid whose viscosity is to be measured. The time required for the piston to drop is a measure of the viscosity, and this measurement is electrically transmitted to an indicator, recorder, or controller where it is converted to desired viscosity units.

Le temps de descente est mesuré par un circuit électronique qui transmet un signal de 4 à 20 mA proportionnel au temps mesuré. Ce signal est maintenu jusqu'à la prochaine mesure.
