The premolar teeth are located between the canine and the molar teeth. Every quadrant has two premolars, with eight premolars in all. Premolars commonly have two cusps and are therefore also referred to as "bicuspids. "... They have properties of both the anterior canines and posterior molars.

Bitewing radiographs are a routine part of the dental exam.... These radiographs are used specifically for caries detection but also assist in the evaluation of restorations, calculus detection, and assessment of the alveolar crestal bone, tooth eruption, occlusal relationships, and some pulpal pathology. Bitewing radiographs, also known as interproximal radiographs, are taken of the premolar/bicuspid area and the molar area.

OBS

Bitewing radiographs are taken with a variety of film holders. The film holder has a wing or tab for the patient to bite on to hold the film in position.

The Pacific jumping mouse is considered to be the most primitive of the three species in its genus because of its relatively large and functional upper premolar at the front of the cheek tooth row.... This species is the brightest of the three. It has a broad, dark olive brown band extending from nose to rump. The cheeks and flanks are ochraceous or tawny, streaked with black hairs and bordered on the ventral side by a narrow orange strip.

The Gelb appliance is made in the lower jaw, covering only the premolar and molar teeth. It is used to correct mandibular displacement, reduce TMJ [temporomandibular joint] dysfunction and oral/facial pain, and to provide occlusal stability with the patient's natural dentition serving as the anterior guidance.
