The etalon, consists of two parallel, semi-reflecting mirrors. The etalon is a Fabry-Perot interferometer whose mirrors are separated by a fixed distance. Electromagnetic radiation passes through the first half-silvered mirror (left-hand side). The radiation can then either be transmitted through or reflected by the second mirror. If the radiation is reflected, more electron-hole pairs are stimulated to emit radiation. Constructive interference occurs between the reflected wave and the more recently emitted wave, and the radiation is amplified. 10, record 19, English, - resonant%20cavity

The word radiation is commonly used in several distinct although related senses. First, it is a term for the process by which energy is transferred and is able to exert an effect at a distance without the need for any physical connection between source and receiver. In this broad sense, radiation includes energy transfer both by electromagnetic waves (as in the case of gamma rays, ultra-violet rays or radio waves) and by energetic particles (such as alpha or beta particles emitted from nuclei in the process of radioactive decay). The more precise terms "electromagnetic radiation" and "particulate radiation" differentiate between these two phenomena. 4, record 25, English, - electromagnetic%20radiation

3, record 26, French, - fracture%20naturelle

Established plants were repeatedly tested for KMV and afterwards small plants in tubes were propagated for complete control of growth and flower characteristics. The flowering trial was set up with 10 plants of each of the 177 virus-free clones. All plants were uniform in growth and only a very few plants with a slightly lighter flower colour were observed. The best clone was selected and grown for further comparison with the existing selected Charme clone from the Danish Growers Elite Plant Station. For elimination of KMV it is recommended to give mother plants heat treatment for 2 months before excision of meristems. [From an abstract found in Dialog]. 2, record 32, English, - flowering%20trial

Superrefraction... causes radio waves to refract downward with a curvature greater than normal. The result is an increased flattening of the effective earth... It can be seen that an "N" gradient of-157 units per kilometer yields a "k" equal to infinity. Under these conditions radio waves are propagated at a fixed height above the earth's surface, creating unusually long propagation distances and the potential for overreach interference with other signals occupying the same frequency allocation. 4, record 38, English, - super%2Drefraction

Light detection and ranging(lidar) is a technique in which a beam of light is used to make range-resolved remote measurements. A lidar [instrument] emits a beam of light, that interacts with the medium or object under study. Some of this light is scattered back toward the lidar. The backscattered light captured by the lidar's receiver is used to determine some property or properties of the medium in which the beam propagated or the object that caused the scattering. The lidar technique operates on the same principle as radar; in fact, it is sometimes called laser radar. The principal difference between lidar and radar is the wavelength of the radiation used. Radar uses wavelengths in the radio band whereas lidar uses light, that is usually generated by lasers in modern lidar systems. The wavelength or wavelengths of the light used by a lidar depend on the type of measurements being made and may be anywhere from the infrared through the visible and into the ultraviolet. The different wavelengths used by radar and lidar lead to the very different forms that the actual instruments take. The major scientific use of lidar is for measuring properties of the earth's atmosphere, and the major commercial use of lidar is in aerial surveying and bathymetry(water depth measurement). Lidar is also used extensively in ocean research and has several military applications, including chemical and biological agent detection. Lidar can also be used to locate, identify, and measure the speed of vehicles. Hunters and golfers use lidar-equipped binoculars for range finding. 6, record 39, English, - light%20detection%20and%20ranging

DOUGLAS, Douglas Sea State. Douglas Sea Scale. Douglas Scale. Douglas Swell Scale. Douglas Sea and Swell Scale. ... what do they mean? Douglas is the name given to a set of tables used to describe sea and swell conditions. The Douglas Sea tables refer to the waves generated by the wind in the locality at the time, the Douglas Swell tables refer to decaying waves originally generated by distant winds, and the Douglas Sea and Swell tables are a combination of the two. Originally, Douglas made no mention of heights or wave periods, and used only words to define the sea and swell conditions, e.g., slight sea, moderate sea or long low swell, short moderate swell. The combined definition was produced by a sea description followed by a swell description. But different publications have interpreted the Douglas Scales to produce wave heights and periods; and different interpretations have led to confusion. According to the World Meteorological Organisation, there is no internationally recognised definition or official status for any of the Douglas scales. 2, record 48, English, - Douglas%20scale

The rate of the explosion wave is a definite physical constant for each mixture. The ionosphere is usually divided into two main layers: a lower layer, designated the E layer (sometimes called the Heaviside layer or Kennelly-Heaviside layer), which is between about 80 and 113 km (about 50 and 70 mi) above the Earth’s surface and which reflects radio waves of low frequency; and a higher layer, the F layer (sometimes called the Appleton layer), which reflects higher-frequency radio waves. 7, record 56, English, - E%20layer
Record number: 56, Textual support number: 2 CONT
The E layer exists in between the F and D layers, and forms only during daylight. Some radio refraction occurs in the E-layer at very high frequencies (VHF). This phenomenon is called Sporadic-E, because of its sporadic nature. 8, record 56, English, - E%20layer

The Kennely-Heaviside Layer... or Heaviside Layer.... is a layer of ionised gas occurring at 90-150 km in altitude... It reflects medium-frequency radio waves, and because of this reflection radio waves can be propagated beyond the horizon. Propagation is affected by time of day, season, and sunspot activity. Its existence was announced in 1902 independently and almost simultaneously by the American electrical engineer Arthur Edwin Kennely?(1861-1949) and the British physicist Oliver Heaviside(1850-1925). 9, record 56, English, - E%20layer

2, record 89, French, - sensibilit%C3%A9%20%C3%A0%20l%27onde%20explosive
