Radiative absorption properties of a number of propellants have been determined in the visible and near UV spectral regions. These data are required for evaluating the radiation energy distribution within a bed from a plasma. These data and a radiation propagation code(Monte Carlo, non-sequential ray tracing) will be used to determine the radiative energy distribution within a propellant bed. Heat flux/fluence gages are described that will be used to measure and differentiate between the convective and radiative energy delivered to a propellant bed.

Three-dimensional(3D) seismic surveys utilise 2D grids of seismic sources and receivers deployed on the ground surface. The seismic response of the ground is recorded as a time series corresponding to each source-receiver pair, and the wave propagation time becomes the third dimension of the data set.... If a 3D seismic survey is repeated at several time intervals, this historical time(as opposed to the wave propagation time) becomes a fourth dimension, hence the name 4D or time-lapse seismic. The 4D approach allows a detailed description of the evolution of the reservoir, but the overall cost of the survey escalates rapidly by repeating conventional 3D surveys.

The behaviour of the ionosphere and HF [High Frequency] wave propagation parameters and their possible changes can be described using ionospheric oblique sounding(IOS) data. With the help of this method the maximum observed frequency(MOF), the maximum useable frequency(MUF), the lowest observed frequency(LOF), the number of propagation modes and the signal delays can be determined.

OBS

The changing state of the ionosphere is generally monitored by networks of vertical ionosondes. These radars transmit and receive HF (1- 30MHz) radio waves to and from the ionosphere directly above the monitoring station. The result is real-time information on the state of the ionosphere needed by communications users allowing them to adapt their operational systems accordingly. The oblique ionospheric sounder extends this idea. The transmitter and receiver of the oblique sounder are not co-located like the vertical but are generally hundreds thousands of kilometres apart. So the instrument is able to study how the radio signals of real communications (below 30MHz) propagate via the ionosphere under a variety of conditions. However the interpretation of the oblique propagation is also significantly harder than the case of the vertical.
