A crash pad is a 3-4 inch foam landing mat that is placed on the ground under the climb. The purpose of this pad is to protect the climber in the event of falling. Placed under the climb, the crash pad, also known as a bouldering pad, is used to soften the landing in the event of a fall, cover any protruding rocks that could be extremely unpleasant to fall on, and they make great seats when they aren’t being used to potentially save your life. 3, record 3, English, - crash%20pad

While most species of timber are susceptible to termite attack, the degree of susceptibility varies. Usually the durability of timbers against termites is assessed by what is known as the "graveyard test" in which stakes of standard dimension, of different species of timber, are arranged vertically in soil in a termite-infested site, with the top of the stakes protruding above ground like the headstones in a graveyard, and assessing the damage at intervals. Based on this, timbers are rated as susceptible, moderately resistant, and highly resistant. 4, record 7, English, - graveyard%20test

The drawing apparatus does not project an image originating from the microscope, it rather adds an external image, that of the drawing, to the one normally observed in the microscope eyepiece.... The drawing attachment described here fits easily between the binocular tube and the tube support of a Wild compound microscope. It is a tubular piece, protruding horizontally to the left or the right hand of the observer.... Similar "drawing tubes" for camera lucida viewing with stereomicroscopes are also available. Because each ocular in the stereomicroscope produces an image of the specimen from a different angle, both images together give the impression of 3D-vision, but obviously, the drawing picked up from the drawing tube can be superimposed with only one of the two members of the stereopair. 1, record 32, English, - drawing%20tube

Funnel cloud is a condensation funnel extending from the base of a towering cumulus or Cb [cumulonimbus], associated with a rotating column of air that is not in contact with the ground (and hence different from a tornado). Simply put, the pressure chamber ... is just a device for applying air pressure to a leaf (or small shoot), where most of the leaf is inside the chamber but a small part of the leaf stem (the petiole) is exposed to the outside of the chamber through a seal. The amount of pressure that it takes to cause water to appear at the petiole tells you how much tension the leaf is experiencing on its water: a high value of pressure means a high value of tension and a high degree of water stress. The units of pressure most commonly used are the Bar (1 Bar = 14.5 pounds per square inch) and the megapascal (1 MPa = 10 bars). 4, record 64, English, - pressure%20bomb

Control closure... Tear bands... employ a locked band to prevent cap removal. Access is accomplished by completely removing the band from the container. Frequently a protruding tab is evident for the consumer to grasp and commence tearing. Many non threaded TE closures utilize this type, such as the press-on friction fit closures found on milk containers. The closure is removed by tearing off the lower skirt, which overrides a bead on the container finish. 5, record 83, English, - tear%20band

En effet, celles-ci peuvent aussi s'appliquer à un système de fermeture inviolable qui permettrait à la bague ou à la bande de demeurer sur le récipient. Most modern crampons have points protruding out of the front of their frame. Front points allow you to face the ice and climb in a more natural position. [front point technique] 1, record 97, English, - front%20point
Record number: 97, Textual support number: 2 CONT
There are several front point configurations available on crampons. Double horizontal front points are the traditional style used for steep snow and ice climbing. Different manufacturers offer this type of crampon in a variety of point lengths. Double vertical front points are shaped like two miniature ice axe picks. They work very well on vertical water ice. Mono point crampons have one point that protrudes far out of the front and is backed up by two points that are shorter. The effect is a tripod arrangement which is good for a variety of conditions and works especially well for mixed climbing. 1, record 97, English, - front%20point
